Yeah that really pissed me off especially after Hancock palmed it off onto her. “How many have died?” “We can’t comment on individual cases.” ****s.
The tone from the media seems almost celebratory that the government is doing such a great job of handling it. It’s not that surprising any more but it is bizarre they’ll just ignore every stat going and Tory mugs will lap it up. It’s not like Brexit where there’s an element of stubborn opinion that can be put up against all the logic. It’s really not going well by any definition and we’re pretending it’s all on track.
Maybe in 25 years I too will pay to be a government cheerleader. Until then though I’d like the opposition to be asking such questions. Give Starmer a question at the press conferences or something. The whole thing is just very Russia/North Korea.
It’s easy to measure how well the government has done on this, but just not yet. Deaths per 100,000 v comparable countries. Then in a few years we can do the same for lockdown/ recession related illness. What fun. I am enjoying watching neo libertarian Strolls pitching in with Hitchens P and the Telegraph versus Goldie, the stubborn one nation Tory party loyalist. Precisely because I know that both are neither of these things. It’s a shame the science can’t be definitive. Still weighing up short terms deaths/NHS v long term doom. Not so bothered by the civil liberties stuff, as yet (might change). Instinct is that we need a plan and the triggers for loosening the restrictions should be public. Maybe people will then behave because they are aiming for something, like the fake flies in the urinals in Schipol, bit of behavioural economics. Or perhaps not.
Starmer is already proving to be stupid. Rather than wait he has decide to criticise the governments handling of this. Own goal.
I hadn’t seen that but don’t see why it’s a problem. The government’s handling of this has been appalling after all.
Can we try and leave the political point scoring for the politics thread. I know there will obviously be some crossover but can we avoid it where possible. (Me included) Oh yeah I almost forgot, Boris is a fat ****.....and Starmer kills babies in his nights off
It really has and to be honest it doesn't matter what party you follow, you can only praise or criticise the government of the day.
10th of april and front line still struggling to get the correct PPE needed. Are we on plan d or e for this now.
I've found myself on the same side as Hitchens P, Trump (although he's backtracked), Katie Hopkins and even Uber. The world's gone mad.
