Worldometer is quite addictive but only as good as the info the countries provide. Hence our now traditional 135 recoveries to date.

Does anyone actually know when the govt intends to start rolling this furlough scheme out to employers? Just wondered. One of my brothers is paying his staff but cant afford to do so beyond 2 more weeks. I know that self employed will get nothing for another couple of months so are expected to live on fresh air, go back to work and risk spreading or turn to a life of crime. There were some grand gestures by Rishi but nothing practical to millions of people. As long as Tesco get sorted it's ok though.

Three nurses who wore bin bags on their shifts due to a shortage in personal protective equipment (PPE) have reportedly tested positive for coronavirus.

Remember to give them a clap tonight

More economic doom and gloom on the Been right now; this time dairy farmers pouring milk down the drain. Very clear message that if too many of them go to the wall then we may not be able to provide enough milk once this is all over and demand picks up again. Just one story of woe to add to many.

That’s a bit naughty of Hitchens P, the article he copied fails to detail many of the measures that Sweden is taking, such as the isolation of 68 year old Christian Libertarians (ok perhaps not the last two). The article is one of those horrible things that conflates politics with public health and ends up agreeing the **** out of its existing position. The National Review.

    Could do better.

For the record I really hope the Swedish stick to their approach and that it works, instinctively it seems much more balanced than our way forward or that of the true alternative, Belarus. But we won’t know for weeks. Sadly.

Sir Patrick Vallance just said that he expects the deaths from the virus to keep on going up for the next two weeks, while the infections and hospitalisation should be going down, a feature of the course of the illness.

If we are at 900 deaths a day now and it’s going to go up sadly it seems that the 20,000 death ‘good result’ won’t be hit, even in the first wave of the disease.

I hope I’ve misunderstood something here.

Rest of the message from Raab (very stilted performance) all about stiff upper lip, grin and bear it, mustn’t grumble, no change to the strategy stay at home. ‘Team effort’ today’s slogan.

Think Raab just promised you some kind of a reward when this has calmed down Stainsey. Let’s hope it’s cash rather than a special medal.

Yes. Currently the position for Furloughed employees is that it is intended that:

1 The scheme is open for claims from 20th April.
2 Assuming no errors in paperwork and that the HMRC system does not crash) first payments will be made on 30th April.

Tell your brother to make sure that the forms are filled in correctly and in particular his bank account details because the whole process will be administered on line and through direct bank transfer. The cavalry is in sight.
