Can I ask, has anyone on here volunteered for the NHS volunteer scheme that they put out a week or so ago ?
If so what have they been doing ? Deliveries ? Medicine collection ? Just curious to see how all this panned out ‘cos hasn’t been mentioned on the news recently.

I volunteered but was knocked back due to my mrs. I have offered the use of my Vans to anyone if necessary.

Give us a clue Woody.

Haven’t looked at it properly but it looks as though deaths for the last available week are about 10% higher than the 5 year average and that this is at least partly, possibly entirely, attributable to COVID19. 1,000 extra deaths. Quite a bit more than that last week and this week I’m guessing, but if, as expected, next week is the peak, we might get away with 20,000 or less ‘additional’ deaths over the period. And of course these could be offset by lower numbers of deaths later in the year, as those who would have died anyway were done by the virus.

I don’t think we will know for quite some time, but these stats are much more interesting than the numbers infected/numbers dead stuff we get daily.

Is that it?
I can’t make anything out on my screen, will look later.

They have literally just (today I think) started using this volunteer army, took that long to get everybody background checked.

I joined up to a very local thing last week as there were obviously people round here who needed a hand sharpish. I am now a personal shopper to an elderly couple both on the vulnerable list. It has taken me a week to get through to them that I don’t want to go shopping every day, so build a list. They also get some kind of centrally delivered box of basics.

Anyway, back to coronavirus. I have a feeling that we could end up as one of the worst affected European countries from all this due to our dilly dally approach

Was just reading a report saying the same......think it was a modelling from Washington University saying 66,000 deaths so could very well be worst in Europe.

Iyou I’m afraid can’t and have now brought some of your ways on to this thread (as prompted my original post).
Sorry but I have contributed well to this thread and for some reason (again) a couple of you seem to be doing your usual.
This started with Sb this morning followed by a crash and burn post by Stroller. "Got him Sb"! WTF
Then once again you enter and start with your attention-seeking game. Stop blaming others when you have a problem.
Now I can get back to the thread. :emoticon-0148-yes:

I’m “on duty” for the first time right now. Either it’s very quiet or I’m doing it wrong.

It certainly ain't looking good

To be fair to the government Bob, I think hindsight is a wonderful thing but mistakes were gonna be made whatever happened and yeah things probably could of been done differently, with maybe a more favourable outcome.....we’ll never know.
I’m still on the side of ‘Herd immunity’ but I’m not clever enough to come up with a plan as to how to implement it.

I think that's the plans still bit just lower scaled hence the extremely half hearted lockdown

My 'crash and burn' post (whatever that means) was in response to your childish attempts to goad Stan, which in turn came after he slapped you down following your earlier childish taunting about the Politics thread. Take a look back at your own nonsense. You reap what you sow.

Yeah, that would make us the worst in Europe by a massive amount, which makes me doubtful. It assumes that the virus will peak around 17 April and we simply won’t have the beds for tens of thousands of patients, let alone the ITU beds. Now I know for a fact that we have one of the lowest bed/per capita ratios in Europe - about 250 beds per 100,000 population compared to 800 in Germany. But Spain and Italy don’t have that many more (about 300-320), certainly not enough to account for 40,000 extra deaths.

After reading it a bit more I think it also doesn’t factor in the extra beds being created at places such as the Nightingale.......so might be pretty flawed in its model ?

Permission for a quick rant??? (I don't think it directly affects anyone on here :emoticon-0105-wink: )

I use LinkedIn a lot - largely to generate new assignments

However, there have been so many "aren't I brilliant " posts from people (mainly recruiters who have been made redundant) who now have temporary jobs in Tesco / Sainsbury's etc. Essentially what a sacrifice they are making and how they are doing their bit to help the community...
F*ck right off - you are only doing it because you need a job and that is all you can get. As soon as you can get back into your old career you will chuck your new uniform in the bin! You aren't special or saving the world. And you will return to f*cking anyone over for a commission when you get back into recruitment
I have a vested interest - my son works in a store and the very same people would've treated him as invisible before COVID19
He is working lots of hours and doing what he's always done. He isn't a "hero" (massively overused phrase) - he is doing a not very well paid job and it isn't a community service...it is a commercial organisation
Maybe a menial rant but it gets me angry whenever I see these posts on LI
Better I feel better for the rant :emoticon-0102-bigsm:emoticon-0102-bigsm

err sorry I think you will find that the first post was from Sb referring to me as a woke I am more than happy to call you out on this now.

Under your definitions and use of the word that’s a very ‘woke’ post Ellers.

followed later by ‘Wokemister’. Jokingly I said come back to the politics thread and put a :emoticon-0148-yes:

Even when I said ‘I like to see people fall flat on their faces’ i 'liked' his reply. It was all quite lighthearted, then you came out with the “got him” post? WTF? You sounded like some old schoolmaster.

I have lunch, return and then Staines does a Staines followed by bob…as always. The thing that gets me is I have not really said anything to Staines… That’s probably the problem.

As for you, I have said nothing to you. I haven’t mentioned anything about politics and you… which is probably a good thing.
You have accused me of starting this when once again I have not… You are wrong yet again Stroller.

As I said, it’s the same people doing the same goading and then play the innocent.
