See my initial reaction was like my blood was boiling, partly because to me she was just an innocent young girl.
Trying to explain it to my daughter I wanted to see it as the old bloke is just afraid and that's just his fear lashing out. Fck knows, maybe I just don't want to believe ppl can be nasty like that inherently.
They are generally thick mate the ones I know !See my initial reaction was like my blood was boiling, partly because to me she was just an innocent young girl.

I even looked on youtube to see if any of them prompted my memory and none did. Normally with Ads, they use music to get your attention, and I've a pretty good memory for various harmony's, so I reckon your right, that there wasn't much TV advertising.
Now you've mentioned it, I remember all the advertising on F1 cars. They also tried to get around the ban at first by just using the colour logos. JPS were quite big along with Marlboro, the only other big brand cigarette I remember was No.6, don't know what happened to them (No.6), whether they rebranded.
Trouble is it's just not in my nature to let it go, and we shouldn't find excuses for them either, like you said, she was only 16, to me without being detriment to her maturity, she's also only a kid mate.
We have the “benefit” of being white but we are a very multicultural family. My kids are 14 and 11. Not a racist thought or bone in them.See my initial reaction was like my blood was boiling, partly because to me she was just an innocent young girl.

That is why this is more dangerousInteresting information coming out of Iceland.
50% of people that test positive have not yet developed symptoms. This means they can pass on the infection whilst being unaware they have it.
If you read it you can see how a proactive country can control this without locking down the country. Sadly that option is no longer available to us.

What makes it worse for her is the fact that she probably doesn't have to face this as often as her parents did (a good thing not bad before anyone mis-understands) so would probably be more shocked/upset by it than them.Trouble is it's just not in my nature to let it go, and we shouldn't find excuses for them either, like you said, she was only 16, to me without being detriment to her maturity, she's also only a kid mate.
My daughter's friend and her mum were in the queue for Sainsbury. The mum was on the phone. An old fart came up to the daughter and kept saying "where you from?" At first she tried to ignore him but he kept asking and I can only assume she felt the need to be polite and/or became flustered that she replied "from pakistan" (she was born and brought up in England but referred to her heritage). At which point he says to her "bloody hell that's all we need is you people coming over and spreading this muck around" and walked off mumbling some other ****. My daughter said she felt like someone had slapped her round the face. After the shock of it she just cried and felt like a piece of ****.
A 16 year old ffs.
What's odd about seeing that Ad, I don't remember any cigarette ads from when I was younger, I can remember all the cigar ones, but none for cigarettes. Although I remember the pictures of the Marlboro man, who I think might have later died from cancer, and if memory serves me correctly, it was because of that it changed the attitudes of Americans towards smoking. I still remember the vending machines in pubs, and you used to get change in the packet. Although Italy still have vending machines, outside designated shops, but all cigarette sales are controlled by the government, and you might have to use something like an NI number to verify your age on them, never used one so couldn't be sure.

Of course there was no 'xenophobia' involved at all![]()
