Are there any hospitals in the U.K. crying out for ventilators at the moment and, if so, how many are currently sat idle at the Excel/Nightingale, does anyone know?

I remain curious as to how they were able to kit this facility out so quickly. Is it fully equipped for the task it’s been given?

On a happier note - been driving around Glasgow today, and it's uplifting the see the "I :emoticon-0152-heart NHS" and colourful rainbows that the kids are all putting in their front windows - they are everywhere.

Maybe one day, one of these wee kids will end up as Health Minister or PM, and think back to these dark days and remember what a great job the NHS did, dig deep into the public purse and give them what they deserve.

Lest be honest, this will never be over until a vaccine is found or immunity confirmed. The lockdown is in place to stem the spread and not pressure the NHS. We cant be fooled when the pathetic graph starts to plateau or even descend that this is getting better. As soon as the doors open its wave 2 and lockdown once again. Repeat, repeat repeat.

Wasn't that always the plan Bob? Lockdown, release - Lockdown, release - Lockdown, release, to prevent swamping the NHS

This is the real crisis. Can you give us an idea of the geography? Not that I am in any doubt that the same thing is happening everywhere. I am drifting rapidly towards the ‘this is too much/priorities ****ed‘ camp. But am still relieved not to be making the decisions.
as far as I can remember the subject of pandemic has never been discussed on the board, if it had been I, and I suspect Beth and others, would have said, yeah it’s inevitable. But none of us could say when and how bad it would be, and I personally would have no idea of how much I would have been prepared to spend my tax contribution on something which might not happen in my lifetime.

Personally, from the limited amount of decent information available, I don’t think this is an especially serious pandemic in itself (obviously if you lose someone or are worried for yourself or a relation, this will seem an insensitive sentence, sorry). But our (global as well as national) response to it could make it into something far worse than its raw symptoms and statistics would imply. Perhaps having a health service with just a bit more capacity in it would have made a huge difference. Perhaps, who knows?

Suppose it was yeah. Wasnt really too sure of what the plan was to be fair. Thought we were just making it up as we went along and randomly adding the words 'ramping up' throughout

I've heard or read today that the NHS has the capacity of 1,800 beds before they need to use the new establishment like Excel.

So by the graph I have constructed with my limited intelligence, if we hope to have a vaccine by next year, then the ability to vaccine the population, it shows lockdown until August 2021. Strap in folks

I spoke to my paramedic crewmate last night about the same thing.....What happens after ‘lockdown’ is relaxed and we all mingle again ?
He is a very clued up paramedic of over 10 years experience and has a massive interest in things of this nature and reads up on it for hours.

He said no one honestly has a ****ing clue.

    Didn't fill me with confidence

Think I need a visit to the hospital as I've found myself agreeing with Ellers yet again. From my personal, horrible experiences, people dont often come off these machines.

Bearing in mind over 4,000 new cases a day are being recorded at present the Nightingale could be full within a week to 10 days especially with the cases that are now approaching the danger stage. I'm sure there's no complacency as Easter could be a grim weekend and is already flagged up as a possible peak...

Few on here slagging government off, can someone tell me would labour or any other party done any better, ok they should’ve acted quicker! they are putting it into place & it will take time & get behind them with what they are trying to achieve,
With the weather getting hotter this weekend you can guarantee there will be a lot more traffic with idiots heading for coast, I really hope not & would be pleasantly surprised if they stayed away

It was only 2 weeks ago or just over that Boris was saying that we could 'take it on the chin', 'let it spread through the population' etc. His chief medical advisor dude saying the same about getting %60 herd immunity. Then comes lockdown! Stop the spread, basically everything we are going through now. Remember the opening daily brief statements, ' we have carried out deliberate actions' or something of the sort. We really dont have a clue and I dont actually blame them for this but it really has become something of a ****storm for our government. Who's lead do we follow? It will be interesting to see how Sweden carry on and does anyone have any stats for our friends the Ruskis?

It’s surge capacity, we aren’t at the peak yet so you would hope it’s still in gearing up stage. 500 of the potential 4000 beds are set up. The staffing sounds incredibly dodgy. Perhaps they want to use this for as many COVID patients as possible while letting the rest of the system get on with the people who are still seriously ill with diseases of less interest to the media and politicians. Could be that all of these thrown up overnight facilities are simply PR.

Where do the bees go in winter? **** knows.

I have a very good mate who lives in Uppsala so I’ll try to ask him what he thinks of the plans over there.

I must say though, I did think the ‘herd immunity’ thing was a brilliant idea and thought it would work.....obviously I know **** all

C'mon mate, it's not about the political landscape. We can only praise or slag the government of the day. What are we supposed to do? Oooh you cant slag them off cos they are Tories or you cant slag them off cos its labour?. They are the government in power and they have ****ed up. You cant argue with that, theres no hiding place there. They have also acted very well in other departments, maybe too slow but still good in the end.
