Police used to be a very different kind of force. Now they don't recruit the best, they recruit who'll follow orders and not ask questions and have become kind of corporatised. Reminds me of a case in the US a few years back where the supreme court said police forces can exclude candidates if they are too intelligent. Apparently one such candidate was told he scored too high, took them to court and lost
