Quite, we haven't got the evidence. How do I know what to believe? My gut tells me it's mostly bollocks, but I can't say why it's so. I heard an interview on the radio the other day with someone whose name I didn't catch (a bit Ellers, this), talking about the enquiry of a few years back into our preparedness for the inevitable future pandemic - I think he called it the Cygnet enquiry (might have been 'sicknote' I suppose). His view was that if we had made preparations based on this report, none of these extreme measures would have been necessary now. The report is classified, so how can we know?

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula...landandwalesprovisional/weekending20march2020 This is interesting, G. I’ll do a bit like of drilling down into it in time. I note that it explains that there is a lag in data whilst cause of death is confirmed, but even so the number of official COVID-19 deaths up to 20th March therein is exceptionally low compared to what we’re hearing in the media. I guess we’ll have to wait 4-6 weeks to see whether ONS has caught up, but they are supposed to be the country‘s official statisticians. Interesting to me is the statement that the number of deaths in the period reviewed is not exceptionally greater than the norm. Maybe this speaks to the point made by Peter Hitchens and others that, whilst we’re creating hysteria over the coronavirus - and nobody should take it lightly, of course - the overall death rate has not spiked? People sadly die everyday. I read somewhere that about 1,600 die in England each day. Given that the huge majority of deaths attributed to coronavirus were individuals with underlying health issues (previously diagnosed or otherwise) how can we be sure that a significant number of these would not have died ‘normally’ over this period anyway? If there’s no significant spike in the graph of total deaths, this could well be the case. Of course, the attempts to protect the NHS from being swamped and it’s staff from being overexposed to the virus should be taken seriously, but I’ve also seen some data that might contradict the messages that the NHS is being swamped in terms of number of beds taken up. I have no idea how this correlates to the need to turn the Excel and other establishments into hospitals, although I’m curious as to how there didn’t seem to be a problem in finding the beds and equipment to kit these places out so speedily, yet PPE (which I know is different, of course) seems so hard to source. Like you, I’m confused by much that I’m hearing right now, which makes me all the more sceptical. Who was it that said that in war the first casualty is the truth?
Fair play to Hancock he has at least given a measurable target of 100,000 tests a day by the end of the month rather than waffle intangible promises of “significant increases” or similar. I doubt he’d have exposed himself like that without knowing it’ll happen. Then again he was only saying a couple of months ago in parliament how we were well prepared for Coronavirus should it come here.
I think he meant they’d got the three lecterns built, setup the TV and got all the slogans and signage done.
It was funny listening to someone on the late news last night who regarded Chin's death toll as "a load of old tosh". and that no one is taking their figures as true, He went on and said the CIA has proof that they are telling lies. re testing... it was also interesting that Matt Hancock said 3 out of 4 tests were faulty in one batch... I wonder where they came from? Talking of China... I believe we recevied a batch from them.
Just heard someone else talking about the enquiry into our pandemic preparedness. Apparently it was done in 2012 and it was called Operation Signal, not Cygnet (or sicknote), but a google search doesn't reveal anything about it. We aren't allowed to know. I get the problem with coming up with an antibody test (still a month away apparently, despite Johnson saying weeks ago that it would be imminently available) - a bad test is worse than no test - but surely we should have been in a position to provide additional ventilators and effective PPE gear pretty much immediately?
I think it was a stupid thing to say... obviously he is under pressure and needed something to boost morale. I cant see him achieving 100K... I maybe wrong Personally he should have said 50K and anything over he is a hero. Credit where credit is due, the government are now acting very fast as reported last night by a non government fan.
I know it’s very Tory to set yourself a low target and pat yourself on the back for achieving it even if grossly over budget and delayed but to actually encourage that is poor IMO.
As I said he may achieve this target. The thing is if he doesn't make the target people like you will be crying all over social media about missing it. So why not have a lower figure and keep all the Woke's quiet.
I think Nick Ferrari interviewed a government minister earlier this week and grilled her about it. She struggled. This event 201, which was carried out in October last year, was seemingly a mock up of virtually the exact situation we’re in now. The prediction made by the event was for far more deaths. Again, you’d think everyone would be better prepared. Funny how there’s always a ‘drill’, just before the real thing!
I’ve praised him for setting one at all rather than the usual bluster of intangible promises. I guess they have the option of missing the target and saying it was done intentionally to focus tests on the most necessary recipients. If you think I’m woke then your dial has moved way right.
You may have to think back a bit.... In 2011/12 when the mighty QPR were playing Newcastle away over the Christmas period. I bought tickets for plane/game/hotel... sadly I fell ill and was unable to go. I was really sick (worst I think I have been). If that was now it probably would have been Covid-19. Anyway I did a search on Flu's in this country and found out during that time we had an outbreak of Coronavirus. FFS no one ever informed us! I was not tested or anything... just sent packing from the doctor. I cannot wait for these test kits to become availible because in Jan this year I had a weirdest cold. If I find out that I have had Covid-19 or Coronavirus I will be P'd.
