I find it hilarious that normally I am attacked for daring to speak out against the left and yet when I passionately support the NHS I’m attacked as if somehow that’s stupid and right wing.

Like I said, you’re too emotional to bother having this discussion with.

I can see an underfunded service doing its best.
When the funds are tight the first thing out the window is contingency.

I don't doubt for one second that everyone from top to bottom is doing their level best in what can only be described as a complete ****storm of a situation. 20/20 hindsight is a wonderful thing and we will all have things that we wish we had prepared better knowing what we know now. I am also sure that even within everyone doing their best that mistakes will be being made and weaknesses within the system showing up. I also believe that mistakes would be made no matter who was in charge and that those same weaknesses in the system would have come into play. Now is not the time to be apportioning blame but rather pulling together to get through this. That doesn't mean that those facing shortages or finding weaknesses in the system shouldn't highlight them though, otherwise they will never be sorted. Once this is all over I hope we can all recognise that everyone has done their best during this crisis, with many at the frontline going above and beyond. I also hope everyone is open to examining what could have been done better, what we can learn going forward, what level of realistic healthcare preparedness would have made things better (recognising it could never have been enough for a pandemic) and level of health system are we willing and prepared to pay for going forward.

To emphasise again though, I have nothing but the utmost respect for everyone facing up to this crisis. Decisions being made now will have life and death consequences for others and for many of those making the difficult decisions. It's a responsibility I don't envy at all. There will be many hard questions to answer later, but none as hard as the questions facing people day to day during this crisis.

Yeah I agree. It assumed figures far below what they would actually turn out to be and was a mistake <ok>

You may not be stupid. Not sure about that. Jury still out.

You’re definitely right wing though. Which means, statistically, that the likelihood of stupidity is greater in you than would otherwise be the case.

The French announced a few days ago they'd release the number of deaths in care homes too. I can only presume that accounts for the increase.

There could have been funds vastly above what they are and there still would have been a lack of pandemic contingency.

Like I said, it isn’t blind faith, it’s seeing the stats the nhs make their decisions on and having very senior meetings happening in a way that I’m able to hear exactly what is going on. I won’t go into detail because I don’t want to break any confidentiality. But this outbreak has given me a new respect and understanding of the nhs and the system and how ****inghard they are working despite the constant pressure over whether they are doing well enough.
