A Camberwell Beauty taken in my field yesterday. There were two of them, and they don't settle for long. Managed to get this picture on my very cheap phone,
Pretty. Not one I immediately recognise.
They are rarely seen in the UK andy. They are larger than the photo really shows and do overwinter in Europe. Last year was the first time I had seen one here, so to see the two of them up to a spot of hanky panky is a rarity. It is reckoned that they can fly at 30 mph.
I did read online that it is the ‘state insect’ of Montana! Lovely title to confer.
I think we could think of a ‘state insect’ or two over here as well!
