They are rarely seen in the UK andy. They are larger than the photo really shows and do overwinter in Europe. Last year was the first time I had seen one here, so to see the two of them up to a spot of hanky panky is a rarity. It is reckoned that they can fly at 30 mph.

I did read online that it is the ‘state insect’ of Montana! Lovely title to confer.
I think we could think of a ‘state insect’ or two over here as well! <laugh>
