Anyone who has caught the coronavirus?

Even if it's a friend of a friend etc?

I know we have a broad spectrum of posters on here geographically.

It's being reported to be spiralling out of control, but I haven't personally heard of anyone catching it yet.

Does anyone on here know someone?

You don't have to go into detail about who it is etc, just if you have heard of someone or know someone.

back in 1980's we had the threat of a nuclear war, aids etc and they bull us up with coronavirus, we had swine flu a few years ago what the hell is wrong with people ? i went into a shop last night and they had masks and gloves on for christs sake, this is not ebola or the black death, but i do wash my hands after shopping just in case.

That had nowt to do with the virus they had just heard you were coming in . Tit.

It's very hard to follow the so called "experts" advice since that changes by the hour. :rolleyes:
I am trying to follow guidelines as best i can ie washing hands more regular, distancing and trying not to touch door handles etc as much as possible.

But "not touching your face"
Has anyone actually tried this ffs ?

In answer to the ops question, and without going into detail.
Yes i am aware of at least 1 person who has been tested positive, was admitted to hospital and at least "poorly" with it but now on the mend i believe.

That's not surprising, living in Sunderland where there is a population of about 280,000 and where there have been 20 cases, (according to todays interactive map).
So, one chance in 14,000, but that map PRESUMABLY only records those who are in hospital, and will ignore the rest.

So PROBABLY should be the answer.
An Oxford professor of theoretical epidemiology, has done a study, and concludes that half the population has had or has the virus. The vast majority develop very mild symptoms or even none at all.
She speculates that around one in a thousand will need hospital treatment.

If you recall the first Government broadcast, The Government's Head Scientist claimed that we should aim for 80% of the population to get infected to provide what he called 'Herd Immunity' to the population as a whole.

Not surprisingly that, when the implications dawned on the Politicians, this concept was quickly forgotten about, but IF this latest bit of research is right, and there is no guarantee that it will be, we may be well on the way to some sort of protection.

However, all of the graphs seem to indicate that things are about to get more than a tad unpleasant for some unlucky souls.

This has all got very real for me over the last few days as my best mate`s dad (he was old and unwell in many ways) died on Sunday night - his death was coronavirus related he was old (80`s) and ill (needed dialysis regularly, had suffered a stroke, etc.) BUT the docs told my mate that his dad would probably have survived except that he tested positive for the virus.

My mate has been in self-isolation for 7 days.

Not being able to go and see my mate who is in pieces having lost his dad is terrible - my mate not being able to go and comfort his kids who have lost their grandfather totally unbearable for him.

All I can do is to urge people to do their bit by following the advice. Please.

Friend if my wife’s has it plastered all over. FB. So yes! As for @monty987 ... when you think a poster can’t get worse than stuff he’s posted before he posts that ****e! Utterly clueless
 
In this country people generally aren't getting tested so it's hard to say. I don't personally know anyone who has tested positive for it but a friend we started with last weekend (down south) is now in bed with a temperature and cough. She won't get tested though so who can say really.
 
Two colleagues, a friend in London, and several friends of friends, one of whom died from it.

I haven't got/had it as far as I know, and neither have any of my close family or more local friends.
