Weirdly just added a bit to the post on that....Only these two Herberts. Masks stop you spreading if you have the virus for a bit, but don’t really protect you unless you are changing them regularly, in a pretty sterile environment ie healthcare, and do not fiddle with them - touching them, dragging them down to take a gulp of coffee etc etc - just adds to the chances of the virus getting trapped in them and getting you. Especially if you have a beard. Similarly the people wearing gloves while shopping need to remember that the virus lasts much longer on them than on your hands, which you will use to take the gloves off.....better to use a little bit of hand gel as you leave the shop, if you can find some.

It's interesting that the Chinese all wear masks and think we're mad not to. I agree, you put the thing on and keep it there. And it's no substitute for all the other precautions you mention

This stuff has been circulating for weeks Ninesy. If it was worth it don’t you think more official channels would be advising us to do similar?

A lot of conflicting advice about. I heard the one about drinking regularly to take any virus infection into the stomach to kill it. British scientists have derided this as pointless. No ideal who's right
 
Did some hunter gathering this morning and the supermarket was heaving.
That's my last visit to a big store for the foreseeable future.
No one gave a **** how close they were to everyone else and I spent the entire, horific 45minutes trying to hold my breath!!
Short forages to small, local shops from now on.

When will this hoarding frenzy end?

I used to visit Japan regularly, loads of people there habitually wear these masks. I asked one of our medics why they do this and he (Japanese but had practiced for years in the US and was very westernised) replied ‘because they are ignorant ****s’.

yeah, I tried a drive to supermarket yesterday and it was awful, much nicer just going into town, despite the idiot non distancing. I had a chat with the boys in our brilliant butchers who said they were doing a roaring trade, had piles of eggs etc and said that they were working on getting fresh veg in from next week. Nice to support a local business too.

People are idiots. I’m assuming that with the new limits on bulk buying, some people are just going in and out of supermarkets doing multiple shops, or driving from one to the next to buy the same stuff again. Of course they expose themselves to more risk each time they do this. Good.

The wife has just bought a home treadmill online to keep us fit. I have no idea where it is meant to go in the house. :emoticon-0104-surpr:emoticon-0107-sweat

It has to. People can’t afford to do it forever.

This will become the norm, sadly, but that will also curb some of the ridiculousness.

However I’m worried also that will be the cue for widespread depression when the novelty wears off and I dread to think how many lives will be lost to that on top of the virus itself and those who could have been saved from other things that have to take a back seat for a while.

I'm willing to bet when this thing gets bad, and the bloke down the end of the road has just died of it, there'll be a lot of people wearing masks out shopping.

Agree. Don’t think it can do anyone any harm to try and eat right, stay hydrated and get some exercise in. No miracle fruit or herbal tea but keep yourself as fit as possible to cope with this as you would with other illnesses. Makes sense to me*

*he types as he eats his third bag of Mini Eggs.

Sorry my reaction was a little extreme.......most unlike me! One of the big problems we have now is the multiple sources of information which create conflicting messages. Imagine what it would be like if we were in a real fighting war?

Just back from a walk to town, hardly a sole around eerily quiet....

Was in supermarket earlier people on the whole adhering to social distance protocol, the main problem was the fecking self service check out, lost count of times we had to get a staff member over to authorise something and then it wouldn't accept the connect card so had to tap in pin number......modern technology.....
Anyway apart from sanitised products supermarket was very well stocked no shortage of essentials and no sign of panic buying....

Right it's so cold here can't do anything in garden so going to watch another rangers rewind.....
