We should know tomorrow. Havering leaders were meeting this afternoon.
No idea how this will go as we're the poorest of the London boroughs.
I presumed we would end up doing shift work.
Apologies for rant, feel free to ignore it and me. My day today:
1 - Take children to school telling them to enjoy their last couple of days and being positive about being cooped up with the 3 of them for god knows how long.
2 - Calm my form class of 12 year olds who think Christmas has come early by explaining schools are closing due to major problems and many people are going to be in precarious financial and physical conditions in the months to come
3 - Explain to my borderline year 11 class that some of them will fail their GCSE's without getting the chance to sit them
4 - Explain to my year 13 A level class that some of them will not attain their A-level grades they need to get into university without getting the chance to sit them
5 - Be told that actually I AM going to be in work and that will be the case through the holidays too
6 - Make 4 different phonecalls asking if nursery will be able to take my 3 year old (we are not yet sure)
7 - Wait to see the deputy head of my boys school to find out if they are taking my other children and then being told before and after school clubs may not be running.
8 - Tell my children that actually they may be in school for weeks, bringing many many fights. (They don't mind school but I've made 100 promises about what we'd be doing when off as i was trying to make them look forward to it)
9 - Sent an email to my head-teacher explaining that I'm happy to be in on Monday but as of yet I don't know that anyone will be able to look after my 3-year-old (my wife is a doctor, my other childcare is in their 70's and the government has told nurseries to close).
10 - Got a response simply saying I am expected in on Monday...
I have had a **** day. My reward is to read about how teachers have now just got a long holiday, the lazy t0ssers.
I'm still aware I'm very lucky though. There are people with actual major problems at the moment, I get to wake up tomorrow and start again with no real harm done.

I feel for you, Haslam, education is one clusterfuck among many.
My issue with the whole thing is that people in general are made to live life a certain way, to prop up politicians and the wealthy, to uphold capitalism. This virus comes along, and the very last people to act are banks. Everybody else is having to make extreme sacrifices, Government are blithely talking about salary contributions. Meanwhile banks - with the backing of the infinitely wealthy IMF or National banks - are still expecting mortgage, loan and rent repayments. It absolutely boggles the ****ing mind.
"Interest rates" being cut to protect financial markets. People, meanwhile, seem sadly forgotten in this equation. Always the same.

- Those most at risk are being told to self isolate, which makes some sense.
- The rest of us have to literally collapse in on ourselves, causing panic among the pig-ignorant, thick-as-mince British public.
- Meanwhile farmers are working, logistics are working, supermarkets are open, so there's only a shortage of food because of our wonderful aforementioned people.
- The actual impact is on those at risk, those who are close to the "at risks" and - of course - the WOEFULLY understaffed, underfunded and over-used NHS.
What am I missing here? I cannot get my head around why people are losing jobs, why airlines are closing, why bars aren't open. The issue is having too many "at risk" people in hospitals at the same time. This has no material impact on the tax-payer or working population, or does it?

I think all these actions are being taken to try and keep infection rates down. I don’t know where your figure of 3% is coming from. I saw a prediction that if allowed to continue without any controls up to 80% of people would eventually catch it.
Seen that and wondered why she cant give her NHS number and a list of groceries / shopping essentials etc
To a government website
They organise the picking packing and shipping to their homes so they dont have to queue at shops etc and concentrate on doing the brilliant job they are doing
Do this for all the essential workers so they dont need to worry how they are to feed their families

The airlines are ****ed as they have tens of thousands of staff sat at home doing nowt and they are taking cash out the business left right and centre to refund flights they can't honour.

Eventful morning this morning for me. Woke up before my alarm with pains across my chest and down my right hand side. It was only a dull pain but still enough to spook me. I did the sensible thing and got up and had a cup of coffee (not decaffienated) to see if it went away ( 
), which it did - more or less. Decided to go back to bed to lie down for a bit and the pain came back. Got up again and it went away again. So still feeling a wee bit worried I went on the 111 website, but anytime you put in chest pain with breathlessness it just says dial 999. By now I knew I wasn't about to pop my cloggs imminently and didn't want to waste valuable resources unnecessarily, so I phoned 111 instead. Told them I was fairly confident it was only something mild and may even have got a muscle pain from coughing, as I've had a cough since I had the flu in January. They went through loads of questions then told me I needed to be seen to be on the safe side. I couldn't go to the docs because I had mentioned having a cough so ended up with an ambulance outside my house anyway with me in the back of it, wired up to all sorts. After all that I was told I was fine and it was probably just a muscular thing from coughing. They did say that because my blood pressure was very high they would normally take me in for observation to be extra safe, but at the minute I was probably safer at home if It didn't appear serious.
I'm not criticising them in anyway. They were brilliant and just doing their job in being safe rather than sorry. Apparently they have to blue light it for any sort of chest pain report (which I hadn't known). It really struck home to me though just how busy they are going to be. As well as everything happening with the virus, ambulance crews will be spending more time with people that they would normally take to A&E or send to the docs. It was about an hour and a half from first phoning 111 to getting back out of the ambulance once it was all over. Those guys are going to be knackered when this all kicks in round here. I hope they (and their colleagues) all keep safe.
