Probably seen at the time as a bargain signing of a young developing talent, already got international recognition, with sell on potential, etc. Maybe was a case of looking at the whole cost (transfer fee plus wages - meaning if not paying a big transfer fee then wages can be higher).
£5mill fee + 17k a week = c. £8 mill over 3 years.
£1mill fee + 17k a week = 'only' c. £4 mill over 3 years.

He's no Robbo, but he's not as bad as many on here make out, when available, properly match fit, coached & managed well, etc. 17 PL appearances, plus regulary Scottish youth appearances (ok, I know). A bit like Irvine, something's gone wrong where reasonable (even good) CCC players somehow turn to poor.

He's garbage and if anyone actually thought he was worth a £3m fee + £17k a week, they should be shot.

At least he'll be gone in the summer.

That's the biggest load of speculation I've ever read - is he on 17k or not? If it's in the public domain then lets be seeing it?
 
Similar to the deal that saw Robbo go west while Stewart came East.... Clucas went west and Kingsley cane east. Best run club remember....
