Soldiers apparently marched down centre of Clapham High St today .... rumours rife that military enforced curfew is imminent

Joking aside and for what it's worth, I think the military should be brought it. Those specialised in medical can help hospitals or surgerys. Others can help keep the freight on the road or assist within distribution.

They should be sailing Navy ships to every port and converting them to hospital ships to increase bed space, and if necessary isolation units too.

Actually yes <laugh>

Every nutter will eventually come up with at least one good idea if you let them talk long enough. Speaking of which......

What do you think we should do @Roy Munson ?

I think Chaos is still playing dead. I swear that guy has a sock but he's been crafty enough to avoid my attention with it.

There’s a sweet old couple (75+) in one of the flats above ours. He’s generally unwell with all sorts and she had a stroke or something not that long ago so the missus left them a note to say we’re here if they need us to get them anything and my number. A few other neighbours have as everyone knows of them as it’s mainly a young block.

The old boy rings me to say thanks and I say again just let me know if you need anything and I’ll go. He says thanks but that won’t be necessary as he’s popping to the shops himself tomorrow to get some air.

I don’t think people realise how serious this is.

Today I’ve had conversations with people in senior positions in small, medium and very large businesses and some of them are preparing to take pretty drastic action. What the government decides over the next handful of days will have huge consequences for the economy. Massive job losses and businesses folding is just round the corner. We need measures to allow companies to cover payroll without laying off staff, the loans won’t be good enough if this lasts for any amount of time. Good first step but it’s going to require more if we want to avoid some massive problems.

Was pay cuts for top executives considered?

The small businesses I’ve spoken with it’s more a case of can they afford to survive even if they lay off all the staff or should they fold.

Medium businesses considering all options including the government loans. Most I think would happily take pay cuts, or even be forced to, to ensure survival and then pick up the pieces later if they can. But it’s yet to be seen if that will be enough.

The very large businesses are looking at big lay offs and closures in areas they can. Doubt they’ll be taking pay cuts at the top.

Should be a message to people, businesses and government to support small and medium businesses rather than just the big boys.

Also conversations about taking others to court for breach of contract if they don’t pay. Not from being malicious but because they will need the money. It’s all going to get a bit nasty if it goes the way it looks.

Are the courts staying open?

Different of course but have read about criminal cases where a juror, defendant or whoever is self-isolating suddenly.

So is this no longer just a bit of hysteria and a great time to pick up some cheap holidays?

I’ve maintained that the economic fall out was going to be the thing to worry about from the start. Nice snidey comment as usual though :emoticon-0109-kiss:
