The wrath of COVID-19 unleashed by the youngsters which is killing mostly aged people, just because we did not heed their warning about the future of the planet !

These are indeed strange times. I think that we will all suffer in one way or another, whether directly or indirectly. I also think that there is also a lot or news coming out that is scaring everyone, however none .

me and my fat fingers: No one has an answer. Maybe this is mother nature's way of saying we are destroying the planet
Hopefully someone does have a cure

It may well be the massive financial hit millions of workers will take before some normality returns that pushes many over the edge, far more jobs are under threat than many yet realise...

They’re going to need some sort of UBI soon. Too many people are one missed payday from being skint as it is let alone millions of self-employed. Scary times.

Wow, reading the last few posts is enough to scare the **** out of anybody.

I still think Chris Whitty is a top man and hope his advice is listened to and followed. If you protect the vulnerable while letting the disease spread among the more robust (who isolate themselves while infectious) at a managed rate as far as possible, then the whole population will be better off until a vaccine is available, and only the vulnerable need vaccination. But they haven’t done a great job of explaining ‘herd immunity’ and are under pressure to make the big gestures which will give a false sense of security.

As always I seem to be an outlier on here (and everywhere else to be fair). The response to the virus on a societal level remains more worrying to me than the virus itself. The economic stuff is genuinely terrifying.

....at least you can eventually recover from the economic impact, if you are unfortunate to be one of the ones who succumbs to the virus, or a family member does, there is no recovery.

There won’t be a cure, but there will be a vaccine incredibly fast in medicine terms - around this time next year for the general population. Takes that long to make sure it’s safe. We have already isolated the antibodies which neutralise the virus. Every big Pharma company in the world is working on this, not to make money out of it, but to get it out of the way so they can go on making money on other stuff.

Just listening to Channel 4 news. They are being so ****ing alarmist about everything that it’s no wonder everyone is ****ting themselves. Direct quote ‘cases have grown at an alarming rate’. No, cases have grown at an entirely predictable rate, FFS. Now there is a GP who is recovering from the virus, which made her feel ill for at most 2.5 days, on how ‘grim’ it was. At least she said there is no need to test everyone who feels ill. Followed by Professor John Ashton, a complete **** who should be given no airtime anywhere, ever. ****ing hell, I might have an aneurysm listening to this scaremongering twat. Channel 4 news is a complete disgrace, these ****ers should lose their right to broadcast news. No wonder the BBC got rid of Matt Frei.

Right, time for me to self isolate myself from this bollocks, no more reading and listening to this crap, no more commenting on here on this subject, it just makes everything worse. And as there is apparently absolutely nothing else happening in the world, and certainly not in sport, it seems I’ll be restricting myself to reviews. Better get looking at stuff.

I was genuinely asking and I think I get it from what you say.

The problem I'd have is that the protection of the vulnerable hasn't seemed to be more than telling old people not to go on cruises and I can't see that they're managing the rate of spread so it just looks like they're doing nothing while letting 1-2 per cent of the infected population get wiped out.

If you have it and self isolate do you become immune so you don't need to do it again six weeks later
Do you become a carrier if someone else in your house gets it later
Will your work want you anywhere near the place if someone else gets it

Apparently scientists working at Imperial College have already begun testing a vaccine on mice with good results, next up are tests on monkeys followed by human trials. Promising so far...
