So from the example I gave earlier with team X and Y who do you think is the best ? one has beaten the other 6 times that season - therefore has been consistent against them but due to a small patch due to multiple injuries they lost form for just 5 games which ultimately cost them the title ?
Bit of a convoluted example but the team that won was the best. The fact they lost both league games to the 2nd placed team isn't any more significant than if they lost both league games against any other team. (The wins in the cups are red herrings)
This is easy enough to sort out, who are the better team out of us and city. City have played great football, scored stupid amounts of goals, often in just one match, where as we have chugged along amassing more and more points. While city have finally realised that scoring nine goals still only gets you 3 points. Winning a league takes so much more than winning a cup, you've got to be up for it every game, keep going and putting the effort in day after day.
Man City have won a lot more than us in recent times but you'll be hard pushed to find someone who genuinely believe they're the better team right now.
There we go, the best team wins the league, being consistent isnt enough, you've got to be consistently the best! You can win a cup by putting a great performance a couple of times a month and having a bit of luck.
