I did say imho and that I know I am in the minority. As much as I respect you guys you simply cannot tell me that the best team wins the league end of.
That is in your opinion
I believe the most consistent team wins the league end of - but that’s my opinion

If team X are competing for the title with team Y
Team X plays team Y a total of 6 times over the differing comps through the season
Team Y wins the 2 league games 4-1 and 5-1. Team Y also wins the other 4 games where the two meet comfortably
Team X however wins the league due to a patch where team Y had multiple injuries and they drew 3 games and lost 2 games

To me Team X are the most consistent but team Y are clearly better
Just an opinion

It is also my preference to win the CL over the Domestic title not comparing the two as comps :)

edit
well you can say it but I don’t have to listen lol and likewise vice versa :)
Perhaps I should rephrase it: It's harder to win the Prem, therefore it's a better guide to the level you're at.
As I said, "best" is open to debate.

On a slightly linked note
Personally I love the cup final win feeling
Now if you can get the title down to a genuine cup final feel on the final game of season ( :( ) us Versus Arsenal - my goodness that must have been amazing to win !
But IF we win the league this season and it’s a comfortable 3-0 win against - say, Burnley
Will it really feel like that night in Istanbul ?
The title will be amazing and I am praying we get over the line but
The thrill in the cup final is amazing - even when it’s a **** final - it’s still so tense - nothing like it for me :)

I understand what you're saying, but that's a subjective emotional thing and not an objective assessment of the team which is what I at least was banging on about.
I'm just as thrilled as anyone on the final whistle of a great cup final win, but the lasting satisfaction of a league win is better in the long run.
But I do get what you mean. <ok>

I think the word "team" is being misunderstood here.

"A team is a group of individuals (human or non-human) working together to achieve their goal. ... Team members need to learn how to help one another, help other team members realize their true potential, and create an environment that allows everyone to go beyond their limitations."

The goal is to win the league!

It's not about the best players or style. It's not about scoring the most or conceding the least. It's about accumulating more points than your rivals. The best TEAM gets the most points.

Sorry, but I really don't think this subjective or down to opinion, it's factual.

Half wumming and half arguing my belief

And that’s the bottom line cause Zanjihno said so <laugh>

If you say it's the most consistent team that wins and not the best team then what is your definition of best in this particular instance?

Or finish this sentence: The best team is the team ......

Is this for me ? Or anyone in general :)

for me the best team is the team that provides the highest quality of football but it’s so subjective
The year utd beat Newcastle to the title I thought Newcastle were the best
When Jose’s Real Madrid beat peps barca to the title
Barca were the better team imho
Really hard to explain why
Not even going the Leicester year lol
Defo special that :)

That's a variation on the word best...

I think you're describing the best team to watch.

We often hear 'the best team didn't win that game' or a variation on that, usually meaning the outcome of a game wasn't what was expected because (another favourite saying) 'the best team on paper' didn't win.

There's a whole host of things that determine the outcome of a game (besides a fair and square game) from poor officiating to fluke goals but the best team over the course of a season is the team that outscores their opponents most often. You can't do that by fluke across 38 games. If a team of Allstars was put together and didn't win the league it's because someone else was better at winning games than they were, ie. the whole point of the game. Football leagues aren't run as exhibitions, they are competitions and while I would love to watch glorious football every week and win, the reality is more often one or the other. The Allstars may have played immaculate football that was a joy to watch but by definition they didn't do the only thing that counts, outscore the most. There's no subjectivity to it. In a one off game, maybe, over a season, no.

I accept your point of view, I just think it's flawed.

Agree with this, for me the best and most consistent are ultimately the same thing when it comes to league campaigns.

Most teams can turn it on for a few games a season. It's having the consistency which makes them the best.

That's what I was getting at by asking for a definition. As you rightly say, the best teams are the most consistent. Being consistent is the (not so) secret ingredient to success.
