Grown papayas in my garden this year. Will take a photo when I get home if I havent eaten them all. Think we have some chillies as well. Its a lot easier when you have constant 30deg C temperature and an everwet climate.
Its bog standard fruit here. Have it for breakfast or when your guts are bad. Strawberries and blueberries on the other hand are for the rich and special occasions.
That's what I love about the tropics, you can literally just grab fruit from the trees. Well, sometimes you have to throw a few big sticks up at the trees to knock them off, but you know what I mean. I spent a fair bit of time in Venezuela in my yoot, and we'd practically live on Mango and Papaya when we were up the jungle and 2 days from shops etc.
Don't do much gardening but we've got an authentic italian fig tree from my wife's nonna and nonno. A cutting from one they brought over from italy back in the 40's. Gives a good 40 or so figs a year and they're amazing.
Oh yessssss. This is a bit of me. This year I will be mostly growing, toms, chillies, courgettes, spuds, strawbs, raspberries, apples and pears.
Every 3 months my wife buys two plants to go in the two pots either side of the front door. She waters them once and then lets them die. This has been going on for nearly 20 years.
I used to do something similar but since I switched to succulents I've been ok. I still buy plants based on if I like the pot.
