Wasn't the first death related to someone in Wuhan, China who had a raw bat for elevenses (as you do) ...Said bat was infested with some nasty bug and that's how it got out. Now it could wipe out a few mil before the WHO find a cure. I've always loved a bit of Peter Townshend, haven't you.

That was the story pushed around..... no proof ever published. Read the link above.
Something weird is going on

It's believed that bats may have infected live chickens being sold at the market in Wuhan, nobody was eating bats there.

So, as it seems a matter of time before it becomes widespread, are you guys ready?

We tend to be a bit disorganised, buy stuff when it runs out. After a discussion this weekend on what we think are essentials, we're not exactly building a bunker but we're running what my gran would have called "a well stocked pantry" and keeping a few more tins and packets in the cupboard. So if we have to self-quarantine because some numpty in the office has been abroad, or worst case Hull goes into lockdown (we do have a port on the doorstep after all), we won't go hungry.

We can afford to do that though, many can't and live hand to mouth round here, hope they'll be ok.

The New York Post is the American equivalent of The Sun.
Never believe anything you read in that Haddock Sheet.
It's worse than that - the Sun's stories usually originate from some facts that are sexed up in some way. NY Post stories are a complete work of fiction - it's sold at supermarket checkouts with magazines like OK and Hello and Gun Owners Weekly.

I'm sure the NY Post was a decent daily newspaper until Robert Maxwell (remember him?) bought it and turned it into a bit of a joke.

Tbh the world needs a bit of a cull

Him with the wonky eye, Mel and Sue

It’s a respiratory Virus by all accounts but more virulent than common man flu and as yet no vaccine. As an asthmatic I am probably a goner already but joking apart it’s easy to catch apparently and some older less healthy types don’t deal with it too well by all accounts.

Anyone know if you become immune in the afterlife?

Jokes aside, I know someone who had it in late December, diagnosed recently 2 months after from a blood sample - he was told it was just flu at the time. He was in bed for a week and another 2 weeks to get back to normal... Just like a flu. It's supposedly in the higher end of infectious coronaviruses and as with flu, those with pre existing conditions, the elderly and those with history of respiratory illnesses are highly at risk, however children are relatively unaffected. The doctors dying in China are allegedly dying despite being younger and healthy, because the government is forcing them to work 20 hr shifts through their illness.. The infected treating the infected, like in the old leper colonies.

Stock up on rice, dried food, tins, toilet paper and any medical essentials as supply chains are starting to break down

I know there's a few science heads on here, so does anyone know (or even is it actually known) if this jab would prevent most pneumonia that can arise from having coronavirus?

Pneumonia is caused by the bacteria streptococcus. It’s not connected or caused by Coronavirus. A separate vaccination will need to be developed to prevent it.

Having the pneumococcal vaccination will not protect you from Coronavirus, but its worth having if offered or it’s available to you.

Thanks Ben.

I'm very much a layman when it comes to medical science, but the reason I asked is due to the reported cases of coronavirus sufferers developing pneumonia.

If this is true then, would these unfortunate souls have just contracted pneumonia because their immune/respiratory systems are weak due to coronavirus, therefore become much more vulnerable to developing pneumonia? Or are these reports misleading/false?

And then if this was the case, would a vaccination prevent pneumonia when weakened by coronavirus (but of course you could still croak it from the coronavirus and its related peril?)

I think pneumonia is often misreported & mistaken for just “fluid on the lungs” whereas it’s a specific infection than can bring about other conditions like Pneumococcal meningitis. It can also bring about a sepsis response or septic shock.

People who are prone to getting pneumonia usually already have a weakened immune system so will also have an increased risk to Coronavirus.

If you think about those with HIV that have died many suffered with pneumonia or other respiratory infections just prior to death. Thats because when their immune system stops working or becomes weaker a respiratory infection becomes far more likely to occur & harder for the body to fight off.

Those who are more at risk to getting Coronavirus are similarly those with an already weakened immune system Having a pneumococcal vaccination won’t have any affect in strengthening an already weakened immune system against Coronavirus.
