Good point in the end. Great start to the game and Maddison was so unlucky not to score on two minutes when the keeper touched his shot onto the post. Irvine had another great chance three minutes later but put his shot wide. Thought City just shaded the first half to be honest. 0-0. Take that.
Reading the better side in the second half and scored when Long let one through his legs, their first real shot on target to be fair, or to be even fairer the first time they'd actually looked like scoring.
Game changed when Eaves went off and Magennis took up his role. Eaves won FA all afternoon. Magennis won more headers in five minutes then Eaves did in 70.
Wilks and Lewis Potter both made a difference off the bench and in the final 15 mins City were on top.
One touch of class by Lewis Potter set up Wilks in the box and his deflected shot flew over the keeper 1-1 and deservedly so.
Reading hung on and no complaints at 1-1.
Irvine could hardly stand up at the end and Maddison looked in trouble too from a late tackle. Say both would be doubtful for Blackburn.
Conclusion ? Magennis when he fancies it is a class above Eaves. Maddison looked decent but was blowing a bit at the end, but a decent signing non the less.
All of them looked to be playing for McCann and that's all we can ask.
Good point.
Decent away support too.
No complaints.
UTT.

A fair assessment of the game as I saw it, I wasn't expecting anything from it, especially after seeing the team sheet a draw was an excellent result.

Magennis does look a better option than Eaves when he came on, but Eaves didn't really get the type of service he probably needs.

Maddison does look a good addition, hopefully, when he gets fitter he will be a real asset.

The injury front does look worrying, though we said this during the Bruce era also, we are probably no better or worse than other clubs on average, but having 11 or now 12 out with Lichaj being added does look bad.

On the whole, a good result and an OK performance under the circumstances, though I fear Tuesday night will be a bigger test.

Loved today.

£1.49 a pint!!! In Wetherspoons

Actually a good game, plenty going on. Reading played fine in midfield but we let them.

Maddison just needs to get the pace of the game right and build a relationship or two.

For me McCann is a brave manager.

One thing is for sure, I did not miss Bowen or Grosicki.

Nothing wrong with been positive but Eaves is now our top scorer , we'll certainly miss Bowen and Grosicki
on that front at least.

Why didn't the players make much of an effort to come over to the fans at the end. Not a bad turnout considering our form.

Both of them look better when replacing the other one, neither look particularly useful when starting, though I'd give it to Eaves for work rate and hold up play.

I agree. Although Magennis definitely had an impact when came on yesterday, he has done very little when he has started recently. And it probably helped that he had more support up front in the last 20 mins ( Wilks and KLP) than Eaves had earlier in the match. Eaves has also often come on and made a difference, and I thought he started well yesterday, but faded as the game went on.

The question was about missing them yesterday and I honestly didn’t think that at any moment during the game, that I thought if only we had Bowen or Grosicki.
Will that be the same for the rest of the season I don’t know. I think that I just was more focused on Maddison.

And that's where I think the formation isn't quite working; he's playing as a lone target man and has done pretty much the entire season, so the amount of ground he has to cover is immense, especially given that our wingers don't tuck in and leave him horribly isolated. He'd perform much better as part of a front two I reckon, or as the central figure in a front three (which, admittedly, we tried earlier in the season and failed with).
