I was commenting more on her looking like a fair shout as leader or deputy leader of the opposition. What little I've seen of her so far makes her seem clear and decisive at least, especially when compared to the other candidates.

Thornberry or Catherine Tate's stunt double wouldn't be able to offer any reasonable challenge to the current Government, they'd get rinsed.

well she's not stupid - unlike RLB

On Preston there was an analysis produced that showed that Conservatives did better in working class constituencies when there was a lot of manufacturing. Thornberry said: "We have Labour heartlands like Streatham which are very working class."!

Nationalising the railways would be a disaster. They were filthy and unreliable - many more problems than now. Passenger levels decreased from 1962 to 1982. Prices double in real terms from 1979 to 1994. Then the railways were privatised over the rest of the decade.

I accept what you say about the state of the nationalised rail service, but I would say things are different now, and (in theory) lessons should have been learned. It'd certainly need a lot of oversight, but they're far from ideal now either.

Railways are ridiculously expensive now, I'd re-nationalise and cut fares.
