I notice that this word has become the 'mot di jour' for the right wing and other self proclaimed hard cases.
Trying to shame people for being compassionate, caring, considerate is for these 'red neck me me me' types a badge of honour.
It demonstrates the new low that our politicians have allowed society to descend into. Along with bare faced lies and claiming fake news when they are found out.
    Welcome to the rat race

The funny part is that it depends on which side of the argument you stand as well.

Bit like Happy Clapper and Knee Jerker

Funny thing about 'words of the day' is the mark of association, should I worry being labelled 'a Boomer' ? even though I don't own my own home, my house certainly doesn't have any sash windows and an Aga that warms the kitchen. Though I'm partial to 'Star Trek' (T.O.S) and I worryingly own a box set of 'The Eagles Greatest Hits'.

It's the step further than claiming everything is "political correctness gone mad". It's basically an excuse for people to say and do whatever the hell they like and then blame anyone else for daring to disagree with them.

I've noticed that they often suggest these snowflakes are "offended on someone else's behalf" as if they're somehow weak mentally and crying about it, when often these snowflakes are standing up to people and openly disagreeing with them.

It seems to me that those throwing the term around often display more "snowflake" traits when their views are challenged.

    **** me.

If this had been posted to this board a few years ago the loons would have come out the woodwork in force to throw "political correctness gone mad".

    That is a massive transformation.

After the first day I saw nothing. After the second day I saw nothing. But after the third day I , I could see a little bit out of my left eye"

This is an interesting subject really. There is certainly a shift in society where people are more sensitive about things and more likely to take offence about things that they simply wouldn't have done even 15-20 years ago. Indeed, there are definitely some people who choose to take offence easily. There is also a shift that sees more people claiming that it is their 'right' to have or do certain things even if that is to the detriment of people. Another unpleasant strain you see you running through society are those people who 'tell it how it is'- no, you're just rude. As a whole, I think we have become more selfish as a society, more concerned with appearing to be successful, and more concerned with being able to do what we want to do and to hell with everybody else.
In contrast to that, we do appear to have made some good shifts. People are now more aware of mental health matters (although other aspects of modern life aren't helpful to people's mental health) and, for the most part, society has become more accepting of other people's sexualities.
However, despite many prejudices being broken down, I think we are less pleasant, more unkind, nastier society than we used to be.
There are some precious little snowflakes out there. Being nice, being kind, being considerate doesn't make you a snowflake though. It makes you a gentleman.

The other excuse I love from this bully brigade ( because that is what they are ..brazen bullies ) is that their belittling, offensive, obnoxious jibes are 'only banter'.

We'll, if you'd actually looked, I was talking to Saffy.

However you've just inadvertently shown how silly your OP is.

You're deriding the effect of me calling someone a name whether it be snowflake, melt, whatever.

Yet that's what you're bellyaching about in the first place <doh>

I should have added that jumping on every cause or fad doesn't necessarily make you morally upright or virtuous. Especially as some of these causes are misguided or badly thought out.

And that's what a Snowflake actually is ...

.... something that falls randomly on every surface.

Like people who perceive racism that the actual 'victim' would never even notice or be offended by if it was pointed out to them.
