He is not slow and is far better than Grant in the defensive role, his height is a drawback but he is very quick at culling out danger, could work well in the right set up imo. Clough is also very quick in the final third and although small, this was not a problem for SKP if I remember, niether excite, but I'm not against either either . The cover for Power or Dobson is already here imo he's called Robson.
Parkinson's been talking about Robson going back on loan to Grimsby and he's already spoken to Holloway about it, he also wasn't in the Wycombe squad so I'm not sure he's in Parkinson's plans for the near future. Besides that's only one player we need cover for both Power and Dobson, also need a RB a LB and cover for the wingers. As far as I'm concerned Leadbitter is already filling the experienced and classy 'always played at a higher level' DM role and getting a better version of him would be a poor use of resources.
Have to agree totally with this. Bridcutt was poor in the premier league. He did ok in the championship fir others and would certainly be good enough in this division. I actually said that when we played Bolton
Dobson is the mould of players we should be looking at for CM, young, big and aggressive. If we're sticking with this formation, and we should, there's not room for a holding DM anyway.
Whether he joins or not its interesting as always to know what others think, sometimes predictable other times surprising, but always informative.
I assumed we would be getting him on loan, not having read the SE personally, I agree about the fee, if money is tight, On the full backs, if we stick with the three at the back, and it looks like we are, do we need much cover , a step up in back three options would be my priority, apart from Willis there is room for improvement there. I was OK with De Bock tbh., looked more reliable than Lynch and able to play in both positions. A lot of players can do this, JoS and Kaboul spring to mind. We do need to get a few off the books though and we are heading in the right direction, McGeouch wont be missed and there are one or two others surplus to requirements as far as I am concerned.
I think we definitely need cover for Hume and O'Nien as if they don't play their current replacements wouldn't be able to attack in anything like the same way. Even if we still had De Bock playing him and McLaughlin as wingbacks is akin to playing 5 CBs in terms of attacking threat. I'm happy enough with our defence I think it's one of the best in the league statistically although we could do with another CB for cover, it's the other end I'm worried about in case of injuries. Being out of all the cups is a low key bonus in that respect, masterstroke by Parky.
When he is at the club the manager always says how good he is but then he doesn't get a game for some reason. I'd prefer him to stay and get a chance to prove himself.
Yes agree as you never know when an injury may strike. See Cloughie has mentioned Liam Boyce scored and could have played his last game for Burton
There will be very few clubs willing ( or able ) to pay his wages both in this and c'ship league. If he goes on loan we will be paying at least half his wage. Better than nothing I suppose. He's too old for any club to offer much more than an 18 mth contract and certainly not on the wages he is on here. It is somewhat naive to think that a club can simply offload a player and move on. That's why us and nufc had so many players not playing on our books. For us who can forget flo, rodwell, tainio, chimbonda et al. The only redeeming possibility is that macgeady's ego is such that he will force a move ( to a club of his choosing ) to show he is master of his own destiny as it were.
