Some very good posts on this thread.

In reference to NSIS post ...perhaps the most ironic consequence of what happened at the weekend is that a couple of (presumably passiinate) Spurs fans could be facing lifetime bans from home games not because they are intrinsically racist, but because they are dicks, possibly fuelled by a few bevvues as well.

That said - clubs have to show zero tolerance towards 'racist behaviour' and have stressed this repeatedly ... so, ultimately, the dickheads only have themselves to blame.

**** 'em, yeah possibly fueled by booze but that will only ever make a **** a bigger ****, and if that makes you suddenly openly racist, I'd suggest booze is not for you.

A person who isn’t inherently racist doesn’t do monkey chants and gestures at a black player even when pissed and angry. So they are intrinsically racist, they just most likely, usually hide it better.

If the survey is right then likely 15 to 20 thousand people in the crowd describe themselves as racist so hardly surprising that some of them revert to shouting racist stuff when angry. What we need is for the rest of the crowd to shout them down and give non partisan support to the abused player. Anyone think of a good tune for 'get out of our ground you racist ****'.

Can't say anything these days without being called a racist!! Well yes you can ... as long as it isn't racist, simple. Clear rise in people thinking their racist, xenophobic and bigoted views are acceptable, and airing them. I doubt the views ever have gone away, it's more that in current times for many reasons people feel empowered to raise them in a public forum, including football grounds.

Yep it's certainly horrific in certain countries and where the last and the next world cup are being held don't exactly help footballs cause, but it's a touch boring every time their is an incident the level of what about.... **** that it's pure deflection and failure to address the issues of the increasing incidents in the UK.

It's not footballs job to address what is going on in the UK, however I feel it is footballs issue to stamp it out in grounds. People get lifetime bans, are they really enforced? Not really, people just go in under a different name, with the advances in technology including facial recognition and the money flying about at the higher levels of the game more should be done. Further to that if larger punishments could be handed out, if you are banned from grounds and found to have got yourself in do them for trespass and get these ****s prosecuted every time.

Not all people are racist, but all racists are stupid ****s and holding back society by being stupid, ignorant ****s

I think the one thing that astonishes me is that this happened at Tottenham in a state of the art football ground. I assume they will also have a state of the art security control room, that will be scanning every inch of the ground via cctv. It can't be cheap going to a game either, and I assume seats are allocated. I wrongly assumed in a billion pound stadium, that racism would not cross it's threshold.

Change the **** to ****er and this would suffice.

I think you just recycle an oldie
'get out of our club
get out of our club
you knuckle-dragging racists
get out of our club.'

The problem with racists are they are thick ****s and have no shame whatsoever, well as long as you don't accuse them of not singing along to the National Anthem. So it's difficult to give them punishments that will not be seen as a badge of honour

Don't underestinate peer pressure. People used to drink drive routinely when I was young and no-one called them up on it. That has completely changed as far as I can see.

They will almost certainly identify those responsible. Racists are unidentifiable until they start spouting their bile.

Then why is it returning? I'd suggest these views being more vocal are on the rise because more and more people think they're in the right and their equally thick **** mates would back them with their 'can't even call a black person a ... anymore'

they're not on the rise, they're simply being reported more often. 10,000 making monkey chants wouldn;t have been mention 15 years ago, now there's been an 'alledged' remark, it's big news for 2 days.

Probably hasn't helped the state of race relation in Britain, having a new Prime Minister who has made openly racist comments in the past. A brief but unequivocal statement from the Minister of Sport (is there one?) might actually be quite helpful at this point.

I thought it had until I moved to the village. It's still completely normal for people from the neighbouring villages to drive to the pub over here on a weekend, have a drink and then they all jump in their cars at the end of the night and drive home.

My mate moved to a village near Exeter a while ago, and got grassed up for doing that - by the pub landlord. Lost his licence and had to cycle a 40 mile round trip to work every day for 18 months.

That ****ing showed him. Well, it didn't actually; he's dead now.

Good. People who drink drive are ****ing idiots. Somebody close to me does it and drives recklessly, I know it's only a matter of time before he kills himself or somebody else.

Mate, when I started going to footie matches as a kid black players were rare. Those that did play were subjected to non stop abuse.

I can remember being at Upton Park as a kid watching Clyde Best run down the wing through a hail of bananas.

So the term monkey makes someone a racist . Well then someone on here is one, judging by the tags on the dinner thread.
