So the term monkey makes someone a racist . Well then someone on here is one, judging by the tags on the dinner thread.

Hmmm. I thought I had closed the tags on the Prem board to registered users, and it was only mods that could make them now. Will have to go close the mods off too. Tags removed by the way.

Now people can't post things they'd never do under their username :steam:

they're not on the rise, they're simply being reported more often. 10,000 making monkey chants wouldn;t have been mention 15 years ago, now there's been an 'alledged' remark, it's big news for 2 days.

I'd disagree partly with that, I do think it's on the rise, late 90s early 00s especially I barely saw or heard any of it in the stands, where as I do see and hear it a bit more often in recent years.

I do 100% agree with you on the level of reporting and how it is reported in the media currently though.

Oh yeah this is just my experience so know it's extremely limited in regards to the amount of games I see/the amount of games that go on

So Skiddy owes me an apology. I’ll wait.

There was a downward trend of people in the UK identifying themselves as racist until 2001 when it suddenly jumped back from 25% to 38% and hung around there for a bit.

As @brb observed that was probably due to 9/11. There was a large drop in 2013 which could have been due to the Olympics. Then a rise in 2017.

I have a suspicion that the number of actual racists has stayed around 40% throughout but people are more inclined to be honest about it if they see others being racist and find it harder to admit when people like Sir Mo Farah are doing well.

Only a few of that 40% have extreme racist views but in a crowd of 60 000 that still leaves several thousand who might deliver abuse. In some ways football is providing a service of bringing these people to justice but that is too high a price for the players.
