I enjoy the Repair shop, how clever are those guys in bringing items back to life, and any train related programmes and can even put up with Michael Portillo, I'm just a sad old bastard these days.

Me and Mrs Sombrero are planning a rail trip round Germany France Italy croatia dah de dah. Couple of hours on the train and stop here and there for a couple of nights. We spent for days in Strasbourg two years ago. Never heard about it, but what a fantastic place it was. Must be loads like that within a relatively short distance.

Who did you book that with, were hoping to go to Remagen next year, a Bridge too far and all that, but your trip sounds good, we've done most of this country and are looking to expand onto the continent.
 
Haven’t booked the tickets yet mate. Started looking a while ago, the tickets depend on how long you want to go for, ie a ticket for a month, but you have to say how many days within that month you want to travel on. Inter rail looks decent, but it depends on where/how long you want to go for. The price varies a canny bit so it’s worthwhile planning an itinerary to get it at the best value.
We went to Jamaica last year, bit of an eye opener, so we’re sticking to Europe from now.
Having a good look around, there looks to be some great places in Europe I would have given a second thought to.

Oor Lass has been looking on a site ...seat 61.com which is a train journey site for this country and the continent if that's of any help, good hunting.
 
Back on track Smug, what about Master Chef, Celebs who can't cook, then Chefs who are supposed to be fully trained cocking up dishes they have been cooking all their careers it's just unbelievable.
now it's Christmas we have a multitude of Celeb Chefs showing us all how not to end up with dry Turkey, it's the same old sh1t all year round just changing with the seasons, bring back Delia Smith for good old decent uncomplicated cooking and cake making.
we've reverted to watching old black and white movies on channels like TCM, Talking Pictures and Retro, watching films made in the 1930's and 40's is something to behold.
just love nostalgia.

Cookery shows aren't about cooking are they.

Because we like Italy we watched the Gino thing, this week, in which he made meatballs and an easy desert that didn't need cooking.

The rest of the programme he was grinning or looking at his own reflection.

TBH I can prepare great Italian food with my eyes closed, it's easy.

Gino makes it look like he's splitting the atom with one hand and performing open heart surgery with his other hand.

I'm sure it puts more people off than it encourages.

Although I cannot say I watch any of the reality shows..

I suspect reality tv is not something baby boomers can or want to relate to.
Marketing would seem to indicate that such trash tv is where it's at.
Cheap to make, it has great cringe factor and watchers can easily believe they can do it.
 
The children shows in need are a laugh and raise money, better than skating on ice and stricktly come dancing, the seaside specials in the 70's and 80's were silly entertainment but better than now, 50% cooking programmes on the beeb now, ant and Dec are about as funny as getting a boil lanced.
