SAFC is obviously in a bad way and we have good cause to feel aggrieved at our current standing and financial situation.

So you might think that the plight of other clubs might provide a litter vindictive shadenfreude.

However, having read a report about the state of our immediate goal, the Championship, I'm just dismayed at what football has become.

Something that has sustained and entertained people for over 100 years is dying on its feet.

As we've seen at Sunderland recently, as much is said about finances as actual football, which isn't really the point.

Football is the worst example of making something worse by 'improving it' and the naive joy that we felt in the days before Sky, insane wages and a massive chasm between players and fans is slowly being strangled.

The whole edifice is just waiting to crumble, many have been saying it for decades.

What's so laughable with Sky is that they bill the play off final as the 'Billion Dollar Match' that will secure a club's future.

Clubs like Huddersfield who are currently in a relegation battle and who's costs in the PL tripled to over £100 million.

Or Stoke who might join Sunderland in L1 after years of raking in the Sky money.

Somethings rotten in the Kingdom of football.

Italian football is still dominated by Juve, Inter, AC, Lazio and Roma. Napoli have hit a golden streak again after years of mid table mediocrity.
Similar in Spain.
Television has changed football and it is set for more change and money with companies like amazon muscling in. Getting resentful about how much young players get paid are missing the point and blaming the wrong target.

I think you're missing the point tbh.

You're picking up on one of the many aspects, people are 'blaming' as if it's the only reason.

Half of Championship clubs are paying out more in wages than their income.

It's quite obviously part of the problem.

Maybe the dream of the big 6 of the Premier league going off to a European super league would help redress the balance?

I must admit your comment in bold rings true with me as well, as the finances have got bigger I have become more distanced from football, our current situation obviously doesn't help the enthusiasm levels, but the thought of us needing somewhere in the region of £500 million plus to get back to and try and stay in premiership is a horrible thought

This is why Ashley is stuck with Newcastle.

With the cost of rebuilding the squad, creating modern facilities, repairing the stadium, etc you're looking at £500 million.

Then there's absolutely no guarantee you'll do better than Ashley.

Most clubs are much closer to relegation than winning anything.

Wolves are doing well but are 9 points off the drop but Liverpool have double their points.

You have to add to that the fact that every club generally has to spend £100 million plus every summer, just to stand still
 
Don't have Sky Sport and never have, I've been saying for years that Sky's money is destroying football and it seems I might not be far off the mark.
Our time in League One might be a lot longer than any of us dreamt it would be that's supposing we can avoid relegation of course.
Money is the root of all evil so its said, perhaps there might be some truth in that old saying afterall.

I can imagine West Brom (for example) have pretty high wages. Not sure what their average attendance is but i'm guessing its not 29-30,000. How do they afford to run?

And who says FPP have decided not to takeover the club ...

... since they formed the group, registered their company at the SOL and pumped in millions they've said nothing.

Where does your info come from?

Used to really look forward to Match of the Day and Shoot. Didn't Cloughy say at the time that too many live matches would kill football?

It's just capatilism at work imo. I don't like it but apart from not paying for likes of Sky or BT, there's nowt I can do about it. And while people are prepared to pay for subscriptions the situation isn't going to change.
