2 weeks ago, he could have said that he can't discuss it. Instead he implied (or at the very least left it open to interpretation) that it could be largely complete at this point and added fuel to the fire. Maybe fans have got carried away with it, but he managed expectations poorly in my opinion.
The poor bloke can't do right for doing wrong, if he had said that when the most popular safc fan forum where demanding answers there would have been hell on.

He didn't say it would be largely complete he said he would give us an update in 2 weeks. Which he has done

**** knows don't know the bloke but seems a canny fella and has helped out loads of fellow fans so can't see why he's lie.

I'm starting to think he may have been lead up the garden path a bit though. Wonder what the mind blowing stuff was?

the Sheepfolds was going to be redeveloped to resemble the hanging gardens of Babylon he reckoned

That statement is absolutely pathetic. Donald has continually built up the hopes of the fans by adding fuel to this fire.If you build expectation that a potentially game changing takeover might happen within 2 weeks, you can't be surprised if the fans expect to hear something within that 2 week period.

But as many people have consistently said whether its off/on then a timeline often changes (in fact nearly all of the time in my experience). The only quick ones are distressed asset sales (Hays/Thomas Cook being one). Also if negotiators are playing hard ball - the team with the cash hold all the cards - it is unlikely they are going to roll over and have their tummy tickled. They will be hard nosed and squeezing the pips as much as they can.

In my opinion - based on nothing more than gut feeling - this will be Donald’s chance to prove himself. If he gets us promoted then he gets the keys to the kingdom and he gets left in charge of the place when the new investors come on board. If not then he doesn’t.

Actually he didn't, he said "we can expect to hear more in one to two weeks".

He's human like the rest of us. He's got a lot of things right but a good handful of things wrong. This one he has got wrong in my opinion.

If he can't talk about it, then don't talk about it. Don't dance around it and drop hints about when we might find out and leave it all open to speculation.

Edited for clarity

Ffs man, it's pretty all that has been discussed for weeks. How could he possibly not comment?

Fair point it is difficult to assess - the reference to investment continues to muddy the water. Purely on gut I would imagine any investment leading to a potential takeover will have strong caveats - one of which would be any "price" of acquisition. The deals I have dealt with very rarely have investment then takeover - nearly always takeover (investment is normally from a different source). Therefore this may be the type of deal I have not been used to. Grumpy on RTG may have seen more of these types.

I don't disagree with any of that. It's not the investment that has been badly managed (to my knowledge), it's the communication. I'm sure Donald is an experienced negotiator and knows deals take time. He's also been here long enough to know how fans react. Don't give a timetable if it's not in your control. It's that simple.

My gut is that this may be negotiations on a higher level than SD had done before - I may be wrong - the guy has had success but I wonder how often he has dealt with hard nose hedge funds - I know I can't comment but just a thought

He could have made the statement he made today at the very beginning. Instead he stoked the fire by telling fans to expect to hear more in 1-2 weeks.
Which he has done and unfortunatley the news is talks are ongoing and we are looking for a manager.

What do you want a detailed blow by blow account of his movements?

I think you're probably right mate. On balance, I like the fella, I think he had a pretty good first year with the club and did wonders to turn the finances around. This just seems a little amateurish, almost like he's got caught up in the excitement about the possibility and got ahead of himself.

Agree with the last sentence I suspect his desire to be seen as "one of the lads" has got himself into hot water and as you say jumped the gun

You know what the next update from the club should be, we'll there are 2

1. What the hell did Mr and Mrs S have for dinner

2. Their will be no more talk ins, no more twitter, no more pod casts. We tried to be open but it's not worth the bother

I want consistency. Either talk about it or don't. But it's not unreasonable for fans to expect to hear more today given than Donald told us we would. It's a mistake, that's all. I'm not asking for the bloke to be chased out with pitchforks or anything.

He told us more today, he told us what he could, unfortunatley he can't say anymore
