And there we have it. The reason why nothing will ever change because fans care more about getting one over their rivals than their team not just making up the numbers. Of course, silly me, we should be grateful to sit at the big boys table and feed off their scraps.

Where we find ourselves at the moment is a function of our dysfunction, not a fundamental reality of the Premier League. As others have noted above, we missed Champions League by 3 points, qualified for Europe in consecutive seasons, and routinely turned over the big boys; that we now spend most of our time fixating over the drop line is a product of our own poor choices.

Take a look around the Premier League at the moment. How certain are you that the top six places are locked down this year? We won't be troubling the established order, but that doesn't mean that the established order won't be troubled.

What a **** weekend, thought it was bad enough yesterday, but today has capped it nicely.
Then, to add some sprinkles we have a swan & a skate giving it large.
There's only one thing to say;

MELT-DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!

You could equally argue that it is the reality as we challenged with a good team. All of whom moved on to the big boys. Not being able to replace them with the same amount of quality is just reality rather than poor choices (of course we have replaced them especially poorly but you get what I mean)

I’m not sure footballs for you PL. Saints have won sweet FA...well, JPT and two promotions in my football life. They’ve lost two cup finals too, and you know what? Some of the best moments of my life have come from supporting Saints. Including losing that cup final. Maybe that says more about the state of my life <laugh> but it’s a special connection people have with their football clubs. Maybe it doesn’t always make logical sense, and maybe there’s often not much to play for in a sense, but it’s a special connection and I don’t see that ever changing for me, even if Saints continue to be a PL struggler for the next 20 years and continue to win FA.

I'm not giving it large, I'm just absolutely sick of English football, and possibly football as a whole. It's corrupt and elitist and greed-driven and nothing will ever change.

Sure, but you could say the same about Liverpool. They lost Suarez, Coutinho and Sterling to bigger clubs; for all but about five clubs in the world, that's a fundamental reality.

Disappointed Saints fan today but not disheartened, Chelsea are a fine young team under Lamps and I predict a bright future for them and we will have better days for sure, just a bad day at the office.
Im a glass half full type.but im not sure i would class today as a bad day at the office

A worse start to the season than we had under Pellegrino. This can't be written off as just a bad day at the office.
