And what percentage of the soy planting feeds said cattle?

And now it gets complicated, you are quite right that some soya ends up as feed to animals how much is open to debate. With the increase in vegans and vegetarians the whole bean is more sort after for human consumption and it's the waste from that which ends up in animal feed. America feed a lot of soya to animals but they have so much of it they export it too, certainly no need for them to be chopping down the rain forest to grow more. Something new i found out today is that the world yield per hectare averages 2.8 tonnes but here in Europe 4 tonnes per hectare is commonplace. Eat local.

As things stand you're probably right however I have other issues with that in that I think meat has become too cheap, but that's another argument altogether...
I’m not sure it is a separate argument actually
Could be cheap due to the volume created?

I agree that the planet is going the wrong way but little nuisances like Greta Thunberg blaming all of us for all of this is gross hypocrisy!!!

Never had single use plastic when I was a kid, never had a phone,a computer, never got a lift to school, never got new trainers every month, never had a t.v in every room, never had McDonalds,Burger King,K.F.C and I certainly couldn't fly or sail around the world proclaiming war on previous generations......The word Humbug comes to mind!!
I think you’ve just made her point for her

You didn’t have those things because the generation above you didn’t create, use or need those things

It’s our generation that have created those things and encouraged our kids to use them

...as you say

It's difficult to identify what you allude to when you quote 'our generation'.You don't know me and I don't know you so there's very little evidence we're even from the same generation? As for encouraging our kids to use them? I never encourage my children or grandchildren to disrespect mother earth....Quite the opposite!!

I did nearly say it was s broad brush on the generation thing, fair enough

My point was that we didn’t have them because our parents (regardless of our age because I didn’t have what you said you didn’t have either)

Our kids do have them, because we bought them for them and/or encouraged them to use them

...so it’s our fault (as roughly speaking s generation...not us as individuals)

Then I don't know what the issue is ?

Blame us (generally, not me and you maybe) for buying the ****
If we (all) want to stop them selling it it’s easy to do...we just stop buying it (collectively)

But after paying the mobile phone contracts, the sky tv package, a bit off the credit card bill, direct debits for the leccy and gas, the car on the drive way there's not much left for food.

So what? You might not have, millions of others did. This argument pops up all the time, but so what? If it was just you and Greta Thunberg living on the planet, you'd have a case, but you can't speak for everybody else your age on this planet.

You didn't have lifts to school, but trains and cars were ten times more environmentally damaging than they are now and plenty of people drove them. I don't know how old you are, but guessing by your attitude, I'd wager you were born before the 1980s.

So tell me what DELIBERATE efforts were made to prevent environmental disaster during your formative years?

Every generation above hers, mine included, is at fault. You don't get a free pass because you didn't buy a ****ing Big Mac in the 70s.

Hey, She's 16 and knows everything. They all do at that age! Any solutions to the problem forthcoming from her?
No?
Thought not

Hey, you're right, she's 16. Surely it's her job to ohwaitnoitisn't.

Another strawman.

She isn't the one that needs to come up with a solution, that would be the people in charge of the nations causing these problems. She's not a scientist or a climatologist, she's just an empowered kid on a mission to raise awareness.

I don't think she's ever once suggested she could solve it, but then, she doesn't need to. Since when was raising awareness the same as solving the problem?

I know....Earl Tupper would be turning in his grave.

Alf Tupper was ahead of his time, all his grub was wrapped in newspapers!

Distant memories - Alf Tupper, the tough of the track, half my pocket money went on The Victor - money well spent too!

I think you need to get your facts right - today more cars on the road, more miles travelled in car, and as for pointing at 'older' members - people didn't fly anywhere in the 60s - today it seems acceptable to fly halfway across Europe just to have a stag do - I went to Tiffs for a few beers and that was it
