Why? Seriously why did he do this? Our momentum was high up and we should have been easily winning, a bit of Sammy & Marveaux at that moment would have been perfect, but instead he wheels out Shola who slowed everything right down and it took us a while to get back up to speed.

I very rarely make threads but I was seriously pissed off about this, we played some fantastic football today, Cabaye was so unlucky to have not had at least two goals and yet Pardew brings on Shola.

It's been annoying, frustrating but sometimes funny in the past. Now I've had far more than enough of seeing him try to play. Nice lad, but not even close to being good enough.

We completely bossed that game till he came on. He slowed that game right down for us and gave them a chance to get back in it. He should just be released by the club, I offer more to our starting 11 than he does!

I agree entirely about today's game by the way, maybe I should have made that more clear in the OP. Seriously impressed with our display and I'm pleased we have another point on the tally. Just really gutted about that substitution because the game could have been ours if only..

i find it really hard to see what kind of impact pardew thought shola was gonna make when all he does is slows down the play

Exactly. I've been defending Pardew recently for some of his tactical decisions, but this one was just beyond baffling. He can't possibly have thought it was the right thing to do. It's this sort of beyond stupid decision that sparks conspiracy theorys <laugh>.

Some of us over here are inclined to believe that AP brought Shola on because he wanted to go 4-5-1...but I ask you honestly do you believe Shola can even bring more in the 4-5-1 than Sammy or even Lovenkrands as the striker? At the very least Lovenkrands makes clever runs but is not technically good enough, but I'd rather see him than see Shola take a tumble trying to pathetically earn a freekick or whatever we know he does...

Most of us have grandparents that would offer more, I'm barely joking here too. Has he gone one game for us without falling over for no reason? Excepting a derby has he gone one game for us where we've been pleased to see him on the teamsheet or being subbed on? One game without very stupidly giving the ball away or being unable to read other player's ideas? Today I saw Cabaye lay it off to him and make a sweet run expecting a one two, but Shola had other ideas and gave the ball to Villa.

The main point though is that Pardew still somehow, in some amazing way thinks that Shola is good enough and offers something. And that is far more frustrating because it means we'll not see the end of him. I have this terrible feeling he'll be getting starts into his 40s.

I completely agree, i was pulling my hair out when he came on for Besty. Great performance though!
Not many teams take off the goal scorer on the 70th min.

Oh well, are longest unbeaten run in 5 years. :)
