Morning.. A very hot day yesterday.. Especially so as we went on the velo rail first thing .. Swimming much needed... Cooler here today
Morning all. Quite overcast, but despite the lack of sun the greenhouse vent is bursting to open just a bit more, and that is with the door open all night. The likely rain forecast for today at the weekend has now disappeared from the forecast, but maybe electrical storms this evening. Oh well, just keep on watering until my rainwater runs out. Sorry, I just don't get the doom & gloom about a club leaving the FL. If there is enough support locally Bury can re-organise and fight to win it's place back in the FL. This will also give an opportunity for another well run club a chance to take Bury's place next season. Football clubs are businesses that can, and will fail with excessive borrowing and bad management. Hopefully this will be a warning to other clubs not to financially overstretch themselves.
Just goes to show that you can't separate football from politics. The dominant ethic of our age is the idea that if the rich get richer it will be good for all of us If others go to the wall as a result then it is a necessary result of free market economics and can serve as a warning to the rest. The Premier League is nothing other than a mirror of what English society has become.
Morning all. Much cooler start to the day with a mist hanging over the valley. I somehow think that if Bassini hadn't been ejected Watford could well have become another Bury. I don't think that SH would have been taking the same stance if that had happened. It is the thought of what other people, the fans up there feel like today, that others more lucky than them are being sympathetic about. People have lost their jobs, local suppliers have not been paid putting their businesses at risk, but we should ignore it? England is lucky to have the most developed network of professional football clubs anywhere, with small towns such as Watford or Bury having their clubs at the centre of what happens. Take that away and a part of the town dies with it.
The thing which stopped us going the same way as Bury and Bolton was our location Frenchie ie. close to London, this was the primary reason for the Pozzo's taking an interest in us.
It is right that football fans have sympathy for Bury supporters but news of a football club failing is nothing new. Watford could have been in a similar position, thank goodness a foreign, rich and commercially savvy, potential owner saw an opportunity to make a financial profit. The pozzos will gain financially in the long run by employing their well tried and tested trading model. Watford supporters have gained massively by their enterprising instincts. Our owners have bought into Watford's history with total respect, long may they continue to be the superb guardians of our club. Businesses, including football clubs, come and go all the time with serious consequences for those involved personally. This is simply a fact of life.
So if Bassini had meant that your fifty years of supporting Watford was wiped out overnight you would have simply said that is the way things are. I find that very hard to believe, and it certainly would not have been my reaction. It is easy to say that the Pozzos have done the right thing for Watford, but they might have not turned up at the right moment. That was our good fortune.
Yes, luck plays a part in many successes or failures. The Pozzos could have chosen a club like Fulham or CP, let us enjoy the fact that we have owners who will invest but not endanger the long term security of our club. Watford and Bolton seem to be the two extremes, thankfully most clubs are run sensibly.

Morning all. A comfortable temperature, but no rain in sight. I had a rather disturbed night caused by a very hot onion. Why is it that two onions that look the same can be so different in strength? Come to think of it why can two lemons be so different in flavour, or tomatoes grown in the sunshine here be so different to those grown in a greenhouse with perfectly controlled humidity, quantities of water, and nutrients? Something to ponder while I do my daily round. Enjoy your day whatever you are doing.
I was at a local music and beer festival (Leyhill) at the weekend with some friends. Talking football I told one of the guys how friendly GT was on the couple of occasions I had the privilege to meet him. This chap said he also bumped into him along the towpath at Kings Langley whilst walking his dog, weeks before GT died. They spoke for about 15 minutes then on parting GT said 'if you want to talk more about any football matters we could meet up for a coffee or pint' This is typical of the great man.
Green onions by booker t and the mgs was one of my very first albums... Meanwhile I cooked a great curry for the family last night.. A real success in rural France where shopping choices can be very limiting... All content this morning which is what you want.. Another hot day today.. We have been swimming at a local lake which is normally quite cool and breezy but was thirty degrees on the button and delicious water temperatures... Family go home tomorrow so a new version of rural peace will follow with just the two of us for several days... Had some great skyscapes too with the milky way traversing the back garden..
