Morning all. The sky is still blue, the wind turbines in the distance are still hanging lifelessly to their towers, and we have only brown grass everywhere instead of green. A couple of weeks ago we were told it had been the driest summer for thirty years, and we have not seen any rain since then. Been scampering round doing the jobs that have to be done as I will be going to share a sixteenth birthday with a granddaughter. Yesterday she had fourteen friends round, mainly French from college, so I am hoping that her mother has survived and I will be fed. Enjoy your day whatever is in store for you.
Morning all. A good day yesterday with my now 16 year old granddaughter. She had her friends from college round the previous day, and yesterday evening there was a steady stream calling to collect things they had left behind. Hats, coats mobile phones and other cannot do without items in the life of a 16 year old. Then the news that my friends from Nottingham had finally sold their bungalow there after it had been on the market for nearly two years. They have been back from here so many times to see that everything was in order they are now very relieved to stop the travelling, even if the price they accepted was below what they hoped for. Our sky does have a few clouds, but very high up and none of them looks as if they have rain in them. Showers forecast for tomorrow, but we will see. Have a good day Hornets and Canaries. Two away wins would be very good.
Morning all. Very overcast and quite gloomy. The forecast rain so far has been minimal, in fact it is only just about light drizzle level. Unless it continues throughout the day, unlikely, it will do little more than wash the dust off my plants. My water butts down the fields are nearly empty, so I guess I will have to start transporting water from the house, or lose what is growing. I have noticed that some vegetables, such as cauliflowers which rely on plentiful water, are becoming expensive in the supermarkets due to a reduced supply. Still little one can do to control the weather. Have a good day whatever you are up to.
Morning all. The sun is there in the clear blue sky, and 0% chance of rain. Yesterday the light drizzle lasted for about three hours, but did nothing to add to my water supply. Over last Christmas and New Year my tree surgeon son-in-law came and stayed for a couple of weeks, and coppiced some of my huge ash trees. Despite the lack of rain they have sent up new shoots that are now about three metres high. I still have a large quantity of logs to move from the fields to the wood store at the house, and also a lot of branches to log up that he didn't have time to do. So despite the current weather I need to start preparing for the colder days that will come without a doubt. Have a good day whatever is in store for you.
Afternoon all.. Recovering here from a good walk. French schools have gone back today in our area... And we just walked through a Riverside beach area that was teeming last week.. And we were the only ones there. The country areas just empty out...
Morning, Dave; morning, all. I’ve been sorting our loft out during this summer, and despite weeks of hard work, it’s still not clear. It’s more organised, but it’s not clear. We’re trying to get ourselves in a position where we can perhaps have a three-storey extension. But that ain’t happening with boxes of what seem to contain Action Man with Eagle Eyes, Battle comics, decrepit toys you wouldn’t want to cuddle, etc etc... Still, small steps of progress are being made. Some child in Africa will hopefully soon be sporting early 80s cricket whites.
Morning all. A few vapour trails across the sky, but apart from those it is pure blue. Our cucumber harvest is picking up quite a head of steam now. Mme has two plants in her greenhouse, which is ideal with a plentiful supply of water and the humidity that the plants like. She sowed four seeds to be on the safeside in case they didn't all germinate, but they did, so I have two plants down the fields. Her cucumbers are much longer than mine, although mine are producing just as many fruits. Last year just about everyone in the village was given a present of at least one, sometimes two, as well as us, daughter and granddaughters eating it until we started to go green. Looks as if we are heading in the same direction again this year. Enjoy your day whatever you plan to do.
Morning all. Bright and sunny again without any rain forecast. After the long summer break the children from the village are back at school. Their days of roaming the fields, climbing trees, sleeping in the garden in the wigwam they have constructed have come to an end, and been replaced by maths, French history or English lessons. One nine year old returned from his lessons yesterday and started hurtling around the village at top speed on his bike. Clearly he felt the the need to be released from doing what he had to do during the day, and reclaim some of his freedom. Enjoy your day if you plan to go out on your bike.
