Totally agree. There's been a few years when you'd have expected someone to be a shoe in to win and they haven't. It used to be good review show but even that's gone to pot a bit in recent years.
All of that said I hope Owen Farrell wins it because if he does we'll have won the rugby union world cup - made the code distinction just for you!
Appreciate that, I haven't heard of him either. Without the assistance of google and apart from names I've now seen mentioned on here I couldn't name a single current cricketer or rugby union player. Sports personality is basically a popularity contest taken from the main sports that make the mainstream media. It has very little to do with achievement.
As football is the most popular sport, does that mean only they should win the award?
No i disagree with the popularity part of it. Should go on achievements over all sports not just the main ones that people know about, it would actually mean a bit more then. It shouldn't be down to a public vote. They should have a panel of ex sports people who look at all sports and decide. The format it is currently in is just pointless in my opinion.

For years there was a move for Michael Bisping (apologies for any misspelling there) to get it but I don't think he was even nominated. It's not my cup of tea but you couldn't knock his achievements. There must be a few others in that category who most will never know about.
Understood Smoke. But I suppose a line had to be drawn somewhere when it comes to separating achievements in differing sports.
I suppose that effort by Stokes which stands as one of the truly great knocks, must give him a shot at the award.
