Off Topic Scottish Ref 2 - Do you give a ****?

They want to make their own laws and not be governed by a party very few of them voted for. Forget trade and balance sheets. They want their freedom. A bit like another nation is can think of...

Scotland does make it's own laws, it just doesn't have to be financially responsible for them.

Scotland is essentially the only part of the UK to not be effected by austerity measures. The Welsh healthcare system barely functions, Northern Ireland doesn't have a government, and England has absolutely zero national representation. The only representation England will now have is autonomous City Mayors. Scotland gets higher investment in social policies, a fully functioning and large Scottish Parliament, a heavily over represented First Minister and doesn't have to even consider the fact they run a huge budget deficit.

I sincerely hope, 100%, and have hoped for the past 6 years that Scotland leaves the United Kingdom. I think it will be the best thing to happen to England and Wales in years. The billions of pounds invested over Hadrians wall is desperately needed in Wales and Northern England. Scotland waste it, they haven't invested intelligently in years.

And it will be another independent country in Europe, that is so heavily reliant on England (and Wales) that we will have further influence on the continent.

If Scotland had some form of imposed austerity you would actually see some form of major austerity measures, it just hasn't happened.

Brexit is considerably different because the UK is a sovereign state, has a GDP of 3 trillion pounds (almost entirely because of southern England), can travel abroad and manage massive trade agreements with countries like the US and Canada. Like Brexit or not, to compare the Scottish Referendum and the EU Referendum is simply an SNP tactic and absolutely moronic.

Scotland has no native currency
Scotland central bank is attached (a subsidy of) the Bank of England
Scotland runs an absolutely humongous budget deficit reliant on an external money source

To see the substantial differences in real money here let's look at this:

The UK has a bargaining chip because we are the EU's number one internal customer on big purchasable goods.
The SNP once suggested they could bargain with England because of Whiskey exports. A barely £100 billion business.

I understand that people who once lived in Scotland feel very passionate about it, they are lovely people, they have a beautiful country, but you are talking about money, economics and social care. If you love that country, truly, you would of course vote to remain. As someone who loves his own country, I would urge them to vote leave.

My initial point was **** the economy and see what happens. It was a tongue in cheek remark about how certain brexiteers think. I think you’ve taken that comment of mine far too literally. Hard to tell over the tinterwebs so I get it ha. However you’re right in what you say regards the economy. Based off that it would be very “interesting” (disastrous) for Scotland. However my tongue in cheek comment at the start was to **** it all and see what happens.

The first referendum was said to be a once in a generation thing. Unless I’m mistaken, and I don’t think I am, a generation hasn’t passed yet since the first one. On that basis why should there be a second referendum.

I like the Scots personally so I hope they remain part of the UK. As a Northumbrian I have more in common with them than those in London.

They did have a vote which was fairly conclusive. Was it not Alex Salmond who described it as once in a lifetime? He appeared to be one of the big protagonists. There is no country on earth with a life expectancy of 5 years is there.

All this re-running votes is a bit ****ish if you ask me. It smells badly of spoilt kids who haven't got their own way.

And don't get me started on the muslim countries like Saudi etc and all their human rights issues. That's what is important right? I buy mine at Primark. I am aware this means that children in Bangladesh are working themselves to an early grave so that I can buy their product so satisfyingly cheaply. What does that say about me ? What does it say about any other of their customers that have taken the time to think about it ? What does it say about those that haven't ?

Very true but there are people in positions of significantly more power than you or I who could actually get their heads together and tackle some of the issues.
