Rafa Benitez came second, the following season we went downhill, Brenden Rodgers came second the same thing happen, I can only hope we are going

Regardless of signings finishing above city's endless money team will be difficult for any team. So I don't think not winning the title this year means we're going backwards tbh

If city wins the league this season, it means that they have won it three years consecutively which is not common.

We really struggle to believe that Pepe would choose Arsenal over Champions League holders Liverpool if both teams had a bid accepted, so we can only assume our interest dropped when Lille’s extravagant asking price became appropriate.
English journalists claim we never fancied Pepe at all – so there’s also a chance Bouhafsi has been fed Liverpool’s name to increase the urgency from the likes of Arsenal to get a deal over the line.
Whatever happened, it’s now looking practically impossible that Liverpool will sign a versatile forward before the August 8 transfer deadline.
Whether we’ll live to regret that decision remains to be seen.

I don’t have an issue with you being happy with the squad as it is.

I was commenting more on you complaining about other people being ‘negative’ because they want to see us strengthen before the season starts.

I do think we were genuinely in for Pepe but the price is too high.

Let’s hope we have someone else in mind ...

Liverpool was not ready to pay Agent's fee over the top, Arsenal were willing to do so, that is where we missed out.

    I wasn't complaining, as such - I said I don't understand it, and I stand by that.
This is the essence of debate, we can offer alternative points of view. I wasn't attempting to prohibit them from expressing their concern. I was merely offering my differing point of view, ie - that pre-season is no great indicator of the season to come, and I don't share their feelings of apprehension at this stage.

Only if we look bad when the season starts in earnest will I start to worry. It isn't within our power to do anything about it one way or the other, so why worry about something that hasn't happened yet?

On a related note: There are a couple of areas where I think we could benefit from strengthening, but I can't make it happen. I trust Klopp's record so far in that I believe that if we don't make additions, there will be genuine reasons for this. Either he thinks the squad is adequate, or he can't get the players he wants.
We have seen often that he's not prepared to buy unless he feels it's the right move. I'd much rather that than BR's scattergun approach to the transfer market.

Rodgers was clueless in the market and I doubt anyone would hear his name and be desperate to play for him.

He also likes Gomez as a #1 choice for CB and Milner as a utility midfielder. They can’t do both jobs and we got stretched last year. Gomez got injured ‘standing in’ at RB after we had let Clyne go on loan. Milner was got at after that, although this was on the right, not the left.

He's clearly our best CB after VVD. However, Klopp kept dropping TAA and moving Gomez to accommodate Lovren in the first half of last season.

I also believe Klopp thinks they can do multiple roles and the total squad numbers allow players to move positions.

This isn't my thought process, I'd buy a LB & RB. But equally, I'd only buy if the right player was available, I wouldn't buy anyone because we're short.

That’s fair enough Saint. Just don’t agree with the labelling of fans as ‘negative’ because there are concerns with squad depth.
