Gareth Bale on the brink of signing for a Chinese outfit for £52 million a year. Nice work if you can get it. Though he apparently has a personal fortune of £100 mill already so hardly needs the dosh. If he reigned in his wage demands a little bit he could have gone to a decent PL outfit and played some competitive football to finish his career. After 5 years in Spain he hardly speaks a word of Spanish so mandarin is probably beyond him. Just shows the lure of the ££££.

Thank goodness the lure of 'filthy lucre' will likely drag Bale to the East; thought for a minute FC Bayern were going to get sucked into paying both a large transfer fee and a substantial wage (contribution) for the Welsh lad.

Holy ****. Have a look at this little bloke who takes out USA National Under 8s Title. The title was contested over 7 heats with the fastest heat time being acclaimed the champion. Young Victor Jaimez-Solorio eclipsed the nearest best time by about 9 seconds. He negative split the race.

Victor is in the blue and black and drawn the inside lane. No1. <applause>

La Liga Champions - Athletico Madrid 14/1 Sky Bet

For those who like a longer-term punt .................... I've been very impressed by Athletico Madrid in their pre-season games, particularly their 7-3 drubbing of the old enemy Real (a game in which Diego Costa struck 4 times). Costa seems to be right back to his very best and with Joao Felix and Marco Llorente added to the squad they will not be dependent upon one man to score the goals (as they were in previous seasons with Griezmann). Simeone's side will once again be difficult to break down and won't concede many, and with Real Madrid looking to be going through another phase of self-destruct it could well be their city rivals Athletico who prove the biggest challenge to Barcelona. The Catalans are 4/6 favourites with Sky Bet for good reason but their defensive frailties remain and if Athletico can avoid defeat in their 2 matches against the reigning champs I think they could just nick the title.

I don't think it's a bad thing we lost the toss, I'm sure we would have batted first but Edgbaston always has something for the bowlers first up. Just put it in the right areas and take your catches if and when they come...!!

I just read on BBC that someone pranged Jimmy Anderson's car in the hotel car park this morning. I'm sure that will have him suitably fired up <ok>

So the Aussie opening partnership mustered 2 before that fine sporting Corinthian Warner got sent back to the pavy. Would you be a buyer or seller on England openers beating 2? I think I’d buy but for no more than a fiver.

Another boring Ashes series awaits then...<laugh><laugh>

Sandpaper being waved around, boo's for the panto villans Warner & Smith, edges, snicko's and the obligatory wrong challenge by the England Captain...!!
