Anyway, I've brought Galveston by Nic Pizzolatto away with me. He wrote/screenplayed the original True Detective so hopefully it'll be good.
Just finished Chris Brookmyre's latest offering Fallen Angel. Was pretty good actually. Feel he'd lost his way a bit in some of his recent a books and gets a bit geeky with computer hacking or gets into the realms of sci fi which I'm not a fan of. This one was much more like it. Now reading the new Haruki Murakami which will be heavy going I suspect.
I prefer escapism if I've got a lot of time for reading ... like on hols. Last year during our couple of weeks in France I downloaded books I had read back in the 1970s / early 80s - the saga of the exiles by Julian May (a bird) .. first one is The Many Coloured Land ... still fookin brilliant and sure to be made into a film one day. Without giving too much away, it is set in the future where earth is part of a galactic hegemony where some individuals may have developed metaphysical attributes to a greater or lesser degree - but there are those that crave a simpler life - either because they are criminals or simply just disillusioned with modern life - one alternative to a life in prison, the death penalty or just carrying on, is 'exile' - stepping through a time portal located in France that will transport you to earth's Pleistocene epoch where you can live out your days ... then the fun begins. Fabulous books, would thoroughly recommend.
I realise you would prefer short stories mate... but my post was aimed at higher intellects ... and metric height ...
