We had a good one in Josh Robson imo., who after making a very good impression pre-season, was overlooked in favour of Love who in comparison has looked less than impressive from day one, costing us dearly, over £100.000 per game in wages plus his fee of around £1m. I don't know what has happened to Josh since, but who knows how it might have gone if we had given him the same chance as Love. Its my opinion is he would have done a lot better, he could hardly have done worse.
Bury defender Adam Thompson is a target for a number of League One and League Two clubs after terminating his contract with the cash-strapped Shakers. Thompson is able to terminate his contract due to Bury's perilous financial position and news of his availability has alerted a host of interested clubs. The central defender has received offers from League One and League Two clubs and he is now assessing his options before making a decision on where to move this summer. Northern Ireland international Thompson was a mainstay in the Bury side last season, playing a key role in their successful promotion from League Two. The 26-year-old made 54 appearances in all competitions for Bury last term and his consistent performances have won him several admirers in the Football League. The former Watford man has been tipped for a recall to the Northern Ireland set-up following his impressive displays for Bury last season
I've heard a few people suggesting the club is skint because we're snapping up free transfers like Willis. I'd think it's preferable to do that first, see where we are then buy what we need. Flashing money around, at this stage, would be a big mistake imo and leave us open to clubs having our pants down.
I'm not sure either way, I wouldn't be surprised if there was no money to spend, I think Ross has hinted at it. The free transfers we've picked up look bang on though and if Grigg can do what we bought him for we should be ok. Of course I'm hoping that it's not the case and we sign Maddison and Marquis but I'm not holding my breath tbh.
I think this is the most likely scenario based on the noises that have been coming out of the club. I think they've done their homework well on the free transfers though. I really don't think that we'll be seeing Maddison or Marquis unfortunately. I hope they can bring someone in to play up front though.
I think so mate, research thoroughly done on the players we've signed and probably nothing in the budget beyond freebies. Like you say we could do with another option upfront, maybe a quality loan would do it. I think our past recent loans have been a bit last minute and haven't worked out as a result but we should be able to get the right player this time. That's as it stands at least, if we can move on Oviedo and say McGeough (I know you rate him but I think he's surplus) we might be able to make a 'blockbuster' signing.
I was under the understanding that Liverpool will loan us a forward due to them getting a cracking academy player
I don’t care if players are free if they’re good enough. What is certain is we’ve signed players for positions we needed, we just need a couple more. I think we will spend on a striker, my concern is that Jack appears to have completely missed that a lack of creativity CM is what lead to the over reliance on McGeady, and ultimately kept us down, combined with the amount of goals we shipped.
Could O9 fill this role? Not to the capacity McGeady can but given a run in the team I think O9 is an intelligent footballer who will be a good support for Grigg and will chip in with a few goals.
I like Luke, but I think people overplay his ability because of his character. He can certainly play CM, I’m not convinced he’s got the passing range to play further forward though, and you also need to be an instinctive decision maker. I’m not against him having a try there of course, I gather he did well against Shields.
This in abundance. He's a cracking lad no doubt at all, but I'm not so sure of exactly how good he is. If he was outstanding and our best CM, he wouldn't have played RB for the majority of last season.
Agreed. He’s a solid player, no question, whether he’s any more than that we will see. I do like the lad, I just haven’t seen what many seem to have, I’m sure he will get midfield game time and then I’ll judge. I’m certain McGeough will go to Aberdeen.
Another who we won't miss if he does go. Was 100% fit for the EFL final but didn't even make the bench.
