Having lived most of my life in the UK, up to the time I was around 32, I hadn't been to Uni yet, to study Geography and the Environment, but thought I knew enough to get an idea of the relative instability of NZ, compared to the UK, for earthquakes. The UK has many earthquakes a year, hundreds, in fact, but they are mainly tiny. However, if you've ever been lying in bed, and thought, 'hello, did I feel trembling?' you probably aren't imagining it. But 32 years without anything being a big deal was a recipe for stability, in my mind. Then I moved to NZ. Of course, New Zealand has quite a reputation for earthquakes, owing its existence to being the upper part of a subduction zone, where two tectonic plates come together, and one slides under the other. I was in the country for about 8 hours and woke up about 3am with the bed skidding across the floor. Next morning at breakfast I mentioned the bed moving. The response was, 'Aw yeeeah! Thet wus e luttle 'un'. During the rest of my time there I realised they hadn't been kidding.
If it’s fish and chips, then my favourite place is in Ciudad Quesada, near Torrevieja, in Spain. A fish and chips restaurant with takeaway, where everything is cooked to order, which is why, when we are there, we phone our order through to save, depending on how busy the restaurant is, a half hour wait. This is a medium cod, and the box is about a foot long. They sometimes have to fold the end over to make it fit. Amazingly good.
Stolen from Manji off of Saints Web. An event from today that I wouldn’t normally bother repeating. A certain player ( let’s say a rising star) returned for training . One of the first things they do is check body fat ratio which is set before they go on holiday. It was immediately reported to Ralph who insists on knowing everything. The player was summoned to Ralph’s office and given a severe dressing down. They are very precise ( no shouting or swearing) but you are left in no doubt you are in trouble. The player was told he is , at least , going to miss the beginning of the pre-season tour and even worse he was going to be subjected to a daily fitness regime, much feared by the players. Ralph is very popular with the staff but everyone is aware if they don’t perform they are in trouble. Apparently he is totally focussed on the clubs success to an OCD level. I only repeat this to show the bed wetters that we have an amazing manager and he means business. Subtle hint that it may have been Slattery.
He’ll be battered by that time. Wouldn’t be surprised if he has a chip on his shoulder too about not going on the pre-season trip.
Posted by SKD on saintsweb Slattery is a complete tit. Everything that’s wrong with a modern day footballer. A cracking player with a terrible attitude (from what I’ve seen of him outside of the club). He’ll be off as soon as the opportunity arises.
