That was when Southampton excelled: we took risks on van Dijk, Mane and Tadic - players who were big in their smaller leagues with the promise that if they excelled they would go on to bigger and better things. Once we moved away from that we got stuck with average players on massive wages that we cannot shift.

Players move on, therefore if Bowen goes to you I'll be wishing him well. Good luck next season. Its nice to see clubs in cities that are a similar size to us doing okay. It shows prospective new owners what can be achieved, and God knows we need new owners.
