Pakistan have to win by 316 runs against Bangladesh to replace NZ in the semi's and they managed to only score 315 so if they weren't eliminated beforehand they are now.....

Still should be a good run chase 2nd half...

    Very odd from Pakistan.
Surely they should have been all guns blazing and going for 400?

    They didn't even try.

For those that don't subscribe to Sky, they have announced that they will make the final free to air if England make it. It's a great shame that it won't be on the BBC or Channel Four though. I heard on the wireless that schoolkids know the names of the England women's football team better than they know the men's cricket team.

These sports don’t seem to get that by taking the Sky shilling they are doing their long term health no good at all. I used to love the long summers of Test cricket on the telly, with the occasional in person attendance, as a teenager.

Good for Wimbledon for sticking with the BBC for now at least. Watched a bit of Nadal v Kyrios yesterday. Kyrios would be some player if he wanted to be.

Why has none of this tournament been played under lights?

And am I alone in finding it kind of underwhelming so far? Couple of great tense games, but not that many. Which player is grabbing your attention? Yeah, me neither. Archer probably for England. Williamson from the rest.

[I was reading that the reason why Dhoni has not cut loose at any stage is that the last four for India can’t bat, all he can do is squeeze out a few more runs while he has someone to bat with]

The Bangla Deshi all-rounder Shakib al-Hassan is far and away player of the tournament, I would say. Top run scorer with 606 at an average of 86.57, he's also taken 11 wickets with an economy rate of 5.39. Other standout players for me have been Starc, Archer and Amir with the ball and Finch, Roy and Sharma with the bat. If it wasn't for Shakib, Stokes would probably be top all-rounder. Best opening partnership is Roy and Bairstow, no contest. I don't think Dhoni has it in him any more

I've really enjoyed the whole thing, and think England, having got their poor games out of the way, will go on and win it. Shame it hasn't all been on terrestrial TV, though.

Well I don’t have Sky and have relied on stats, clips on the BBC and some highlights shows. What I have seen hasn’t been bad, but certainly doesn’t make me want to give money to Murdoch, or whoever owns Sky now. It doesn’t feel like a World Cup is being played in this country. No excitement, no tension. Perhaps that comes from England being favourites, lack of terrestrial TV, and competition from the women’s football. I think some day night games would have helped as well. So far the Ashes, despite neither team being anything like as good as some quite recent versions, is a bigger draw.

I only really have Sky for the cricket, I hardly ever watch football on it unless we're on.

If the cricket had been on BBC and the women's football on Sky, hardly anyone would have been aware of the Lionesses, and the public's involvement in the cricket would be massive by now with England in the semis, I reckon. Perhaps it can still be a national occasion if we get to the final.

Looking forward to the Ashes. We've got tickets for the Oval test.

maybe you need sky to own a terrestrial chanell
    they do here
if you want to watch the all blacks or super rugby you just need to wait an hour as they show the games an hour after the live stuff has started

It’s probably a generational thing and I am undeniably an ancient old git, but I genuinely preferred nearly all sport when there was less of it, it was less easy to see on TV, and there was a fraction of the money involved. The players in loads of sport now are probably better, certainly fitter, and I don’t begrudge them the opportunity to make loads of money. Just less fun all round from my perspective.

I've been a cricket nut since I was a small kid, probably because my Dad played. There are family holiday photos, taken when I was about 7 or 8, where I can be seen with a tiny transistor radio glued to my ear listening to the cricket. It seems ridiculous now, but I can remember a time - probably early sixties - when BBC1 would broadcast live the last few overs of Test matches played here. The evening news would be on at 5.55pm and would finish at 6.10, and they would then show 20 minutes of cricket. Barmy, but it was massive for me at the time.

  19. Not sure the format helps. Goes on for weeks with very little real knock out games. Have enjoyed it when I've been able to watch but it's definitely been a slow burn event!

  20. I only really watch the rugby and cricket on sky. If there's a decent football match I'll probably watch it in the pub.
