Just got back earlier today after lets just say an 'eventful' trip to London for the match last night. As is becoming the norm on an NUFC away day, the football is always the downside.

A very poor performance by us I felt, don't believe we tried and I fear our players may have underestimated you, you gave them the kick up the backside needed though.

As for your new team, I fully believe you now have the real base needed in order to progress in the Premier League, and to become a regular fixture for years to come. Barton is a true leader and a massive miss from my point of view. Had a lump in my throat singing his name and seeing him wave and clap us just signals the relationship we had with him. SWP and Taarabt will be a massive threat going forward, Faurlin was excellent for you, however I do believe you need a striker. Bothroyd just doesn't do it for me, I wasn't really nervous when he got the ball in a decent area.

A good point for us I feel, away from home, still unbeaten and another clean sheet. It unfortunately papers over the cracks that we have a poor team(strikeforce mainly, the back 5 are pretty solid), and I do believe had you had a good striker, you would have murdered us.

Atmosphere was good, I like to think we played our part. Clearly a very atmospheric ground, but I must admit that I never heard you much, but when I watched it back today, you were very loud, it must have been my positioning(block Y6 towards the wall).

I wish you all the best for the rest of the season, you've bought some hungry players and they should see you fine, a striker in January and you will be just fine!

    <ok>

The atmosphere annoys me a bit. No matter how much noise the corner generates it doesn't carry. When it was closed for a nothing League Cup game a few years ago and the singers were in the middle behind the goal the sound was excellent.

    Best of luck.

At least your singers are together. We had a 4000 strong corner which was labelled our signing section by the club, something Mike Ashley brought in, yet got rid of it before the start of this season and split us all up to make room for a bigger family enclosure. Hate that prick! Atmopshere at SJP has been dying in the past few years and that corner kept it going, but now, I hate going to home games. I always like a sing song but can't get it because of the boring lot around me.

Nice thread mate. Appreciate the other side's view.

I've been walking around with an extra bounce in my step today. I think the squad we have is better than 3 or 4 teams destined to be in the proverbial dog fight at the end of the season. As you said, a good striker should lift us above the dog fight.

Still it's only one game. Am trying not to get too carried anyway.... yet

    Nice one Badger.

It was a great match. Certainly memorable from our point of view what with the upgrade an' all; maybe even yours with the Joey sentiments.

It was a celebration of honest to goodness football. Tbh what with the fans and the additional atmosphere you lot bring wherever you go, can't think of a better club to have been reborn against.

A great occasion and one we'll remember for a very long time. Thank you.

Its great to see you all in high spirits. We know what its like to have **** owners and luckily you got rid of yours. You will not go down this season, after witnessing that last night, you are better than at least 6-7 teams in our league. Enjoy your season <ok>

I remember when Trev and Simon used to swing their pants in the "Singing Corner" on Going Live on a Saturday morning. (Sad, aren't I)

A real pleasure to have the Toon in and around the ground and on the train afterwards. Passionate, noisy but never threatening. You are a credit to your club and home city.

Badger you didn't even badger us for a minute. What a nice Rodent. When my old man used to go down the Loft in the sixties he said the best visitors were always the Geordies. Him and his mates would bring in tins of Carling Black Label and swap it for Newkie Brown Ale with the Mags. Those were the days when all the fans used to mix in together.

We still have that over here when going to a GAA match but no doubt it would all change if the game went professional.

(Oddball, the TB Cull gag was funny!)

Thanks for a well balanced post. Getting points when not playing well is the key (chelsea have been doing it for years) and I was impressed with the way you dug in second half and saw the game out. You're right about Bothroyd. Looking good in the championship is no guarantee, Campbell should have started earlier.

All the best for what remains!
