Just saw this too...surely we can't let Austin and then Freeman both go for around £4 million. I know we have financial constraints but selling your best assets at cut price makes no long term financial sense.
Austin I think had a year left on his contract but I am pretty sure that Freeman signed an extension? Surely the 4 mill is an opening offer and then they may come up to £10 mill which would be acceptable....
To put it in perspective, Harry Maguire is supposedly on his way to Man City for £65 million. I know they play in different positions so hard to compare, but is Maguire really worth over 15 times as much as Freeman?
at the end of the day, regardless of position, someone is only worth what a club is prepared to pay. And a selling club can either say no, or ask for more or maybe risk someone leaving for nothing at the end of their contract or have a player who refuses to play. If I was Freeman, the fact a new premiership side was after me would turn my head. However, if I was happy where I was (work life balance etc), and could see positives at my own club I might be prepared to stay. I think Maguire is a good player, I agree with Dave about that maybe £65 mill is excessive but then Liverpool spent £75 on a defender. Citeh spent £50 mill on Walker and something like £40 plus on Stones (who is a bit of liability at times)…. Replacing Vincent Kompany is / was always going to be difficult...maybe Maguire is worth a £65 mill gamble
Freeman did sign a new contract. But there may be a release clause in it - especially if it is a Premiership club? Perhaps the clause is 4 mill?
£4m for Austin in hindsight was a decent deal......hardly turned into a prolific premier league scorer.....hampered by injury and a succession of managers who didn't rate him..... Regarding Freeman £4m is a decent profit on a cost of only £350k...... If no other offers take it and spend it wisely.....

Unfortunately he’s a bad mix of absolute **** and soft as ****. Will see out his contract, get a one year deal at Exeter and drift out the game forever a wealthy man.

Aldo's back to give you lovely people the down lo on Jason Holt. Wee Holty is a dynamo. Never gives anything less than 100%. He's another player that you will not find a Rangers supporter with a bad word to say about him. Gerrard didn't give him much of a shot and shipped him out on loan to Fleetwood. Joey Barton obviously liked him and, as far as I'm aware, he had a very good season there. Not the most gifted of midfielders if truth be told but does chip in with the odd goal or three. He does put a massive shift in. What he lacks in quality he tends to make up in enthusiasm. I'd say he will be another decent signing for you. Capable of doing well in the championship.
