You have to lack emotion to like VAR.
Football is, sitting there with your friends/family, enjoying the moment, being sucked in by the highs and lows of the game. Then picture it. You watched saints grind 90 minutes to a heroic draw (we won't get carried away and say win! <laugh> ) then, in the last seconds a mistimed tackle leads to a penalty. The groans, the expected pain on the faces. But he only goes and saves it! You jump round like a lunatic looking to your left your mates almost got tears in his eyes he's so happy....... to your right your other mate tells you he knew it would be saved because of his lucky pants. You shout some encouragement to the group of red and white teammates gathered close by all celebrating together with the keeper. But whats this, the ref is making some hand signals, trying to draw a shape.....oh no.....its a retake. Ball on spot, into the corner of the net. Whistle blows. People start leaving.

**** that. **** that indeed.
Um, that's the new penalty rule, not VAR

Interesting that it's been said the it won't be used for GK's coming off their line in the PL.

Thank **** for that.

And my post is one example of what will happen. I can actually think of quite a few more which will be far worse. Like the legitimate goal chalked off because of a contentious 50/50 half a minute earlier in the middle of the park. Feels like we are just handing power to people who have the same competency levels as Kevin Friend.

I get fed up by being told they will get better at implementing VAR. How long will it be before VAR is no longer in it's infancy? It's been around for long enough now and they're still crap using it because there is still (and always will be) human interpretation of events.

I mean they won't use var to review it, will leave it down to the onfield officials, what a novel idea <whistle>

^^That'll change when Liverpool or United miss a season defining penalty where the keeper was a bit off his line

I like it how us cynics are always told "It's the officials that are the problem, not var"

What exactly have these people seen to think our competent bunch will get things any better? In the CL/WC a lot of the refs are experienced in using it too...

I actually believe it's more likely to get worse than better.

Best example is how quickly we can all make a decision by the video action replays presented to us by sky etc. As to how it will improve.

The they decide to keep using it for non clear and obvious decisions then there will always be inconsistencies though.

So you're happy to endlessly moan about how the Ref rob us, eh? If that keeps you going, fair enough. To me, that's not sport.

How happy will you be if we're robbed after its been looked it for 3 minutes plus by five different people to still be wrong?

If it was going to get everything right, I MIGHT be able to get on board. But it simply won't as has been demonstrated.

I'm not one to moan about individual decisions costing us btw.

Meanwhile, in Australia...

Is it a new rule? I thought it was just a clampdown on the existing one that's always been there.
Not moving off the line has always been the rule, but was rarely enforced. It took VAR to implement it, but apparently just for the Women’s World Cup.
