Um, that's the new penalty rule, not VAR

Interesting that it's been said the it won't be used for GK's coming off their line in the PL.

    Thank **** for that.

I think you'll find in both the recent examples they notified the ref.

That's like admitting they knew the rule is crap. Why dump it on the ladies then?

I mean they won't use var to review it, will leave it down to the onfield officials, what a novel idea <whistle>

Which wouldn't have happened without the new rule but the retake may have happened without VAR.

Is it a new rule? I thought it was just a clampdown on the existing one that's always been there.

And my post is one example of what will happen. I can actually think of quite a few more which will be far worse. Like the legitimate goal chalked off because of a contentious 50/50 half a minute earlier in the middle of the park. Feels like we are just handing power to people who have the same competency levels as Kevin Friend.

I get fed up by being told they will get better at implementing VAR. How long will it be before VAR is no longer in it's infancy? It's been around for long enough now and they're still crap using it because there is still (and always will be) human interpretation of events.

^^That'll change when Liverpool or United miss a season defining penalty where the keeper was a bit off his line

Yeah, keeper must have one foot on or above the line. It's been added along with the no touching goalposts bollocks.

One good thing about it. This is the best debate since the close season. Fair bit of traffic as well.

I like it how us cynics are always told "It's the officials that are the problem, not var"

What exactly have these people seen to think our competent bunch will get things any better? In the CL/WC a lot of the refs are experienced in using it too...

I actually believe it's more likely to get worse than better.

So you're happy to endlessly moan about how the Ref rob us, eh? If that keeps you going, fair enough. To me, that's not sport.

Best example is how quickly we can all make a decision by the video action replays presented to us by sky etc. As to how it will improve.

The they decide to keep using it for non clear and obvious decisions then there will always be inconsistencies though.

How happy will you be if we're robbed after its been looked it for 3 minutes plus by five different people to still be wrong?

If it was going to get everything right, I MIGHT be able to get on board. But it simply won't as has been demonstrated.

I'm not one to moan about individual decisions costing us btw.

Not moving off the line has always been the rule, but was rarely enforced. It took VAR to implement it, but apparently just for the Women’s World Cup.
