Eh, my son's a doctor
He most definitely isn't money driven either, far from it.
I may have exaggerated the point because I was talking to Milk and he's shown how much he likes a exaggeration today

If you actually read the thread mate you'd realise people aren't saying he shouldn't want as much money as possibly.

We're never going to agree on the money motivation aspect of this. We have different values maybe. I get the joke you threw in about utd but that aside, the PL provides a far better challenge than the other European leagues. That's precisely what you've been saying though. You've been saying £150k a week is no different than £350k a week because both are ending up rich. (Despite one being over twice the other).
The thing is, if there really were any worry than PSG would stunt his development, maybe I could see a point, but he'd be given the best opportunity there. 1st team, all the facilities and staff to get the best out of him, a highly professional team, champions league etc.
He's going to have much better chance of developing at PSG than he would going to United where he won't get top level European football, the coaching has been subpar, etc . Negative atmosphere, etc
He's getting better experience and more money at PSG than he would going to a midtable club in England.
And a worker in Balgladesh would think accepting £100k a year instead of £50k a year is absurd, they both sound ridiculous amounts. It's all about perspective and human psychology. I don't disagree that you think it wouldn't make a difference to you, I suspect if you were in his shoes you'd be more tempted than you think.
Rich people don't see themselves as rich, they see others making even more money and affording things that even they can't afford and they want more.
You or I may not see the difference between £100k a week and £250k or even £350k a week, it seems equally ludicrous because it's hard to imagine that much money... And compared to our lifestyles it is. The inability to comprehend large sums or money is why so many lottery winners end up bankrupt. I recall one story from California where a homeless man won $10k and to him that seemed like a huge amount he could never spend.... A few months later after buying bicycles for all his friends and living the high life with drugs and booze and he was on the street again.
That $10k to him looked like the £100k a week looks like to you. It's hard to judge scales of economy which are above what you are used to living with.
How is PSG not a good career move anyway? Guaranteed trophies and exposure to top coaches and facilities. It's not like he's going to suffer going there. It is a very good place to move.

Is Delight being offered triple the salary he would earn from any of the other big- name teams he could sign for?Ever been offered triple the salary to leave with guaranteed higher quality coworkers and all the best equipment as well?
Heck, I'm sure I could find a job that paid $10 or $20k more than I'm currently earning, programmers are in such high demand at the moment, I'm happy staying put... But we're talking about multiple times the salary and he's going to a new club anyway.
I don't play the lottery, or indulge in any gambling game at all. Neither do I live in a commune.Still on the De Ligt money subject?
Look at it this way. If you could make generations of your family. Your kids, your grand kids and your great grandkids comfortable for the rest of their lives, while playing a game you love, why the hell wouldn’t you do it? PSG will compete for the champions league next season - they’re not a Chinese super league team....
For those of you humble enough to say no to this, I applaud you......I assume you’ve never played the lottery and live in a commune!?
De Ligt might have a career ending accident tomorrow - earn as much as you can, while you can. I can’t blame the lad.

People are different, and that's fine - what gets me is when people state that we would all do what they feel that they themselves would do. We're none of us in a position to say that.
I've only made about 4 job decisions in my life, and never once was the money the deciding factor in my decision. I've been self-employed now for 30 years, when I took that decision I knew I would never earn the same amount that I could have done staying in my former job. I made the decision consciously, because there were other factors that were more important to me.
Yes, there are times when I'm aware of some things I'm missing, but there are also things I have that I could never have had working for someone else.

Did he win the Milk Cup though?plus they would have needed to get jobs once their playing career ended. When i was a lad my milkman was a league winner and England international.
You've hit the nail on the head here.I don't play the lottery, or indulge in any gambling game at all. Neither do I live in a commune.

I think there are 2 sides to this money argument and we've got a very clear divide.![]()
That's why youth players are miles better when they don't get first team football eh? All that training but poor standard matches![]()

You don't half talk some **** at times![]()

What I said there was clearly bollox but it was equal to your comment I quoted. Who the **** joins a club for the training sessions![]()
I'm not normally one to jump on the mercenary thing either. I don't blame players for attempting to get as much money as they can from their short time in the game. I just don't like it when it's the deciding factor in their decision.
A true footballer should be in it for the love of the game, not the money.
PS... I say true footballer because some are in it purely for the money. The LB that played for Spurs springs to mind (shame his name doesn't) who openly admitted to not liking football and that he was only in it for the money. I spread honesty.
He's a 19 year old that could play for PSG for 350k a week and play with some of the best players in the world. ****ing hell what a guy!
Its perfect for his development. You reckon going to a mid table lump it long ****e PL club would be better? That's the trouble, people are blinded by the top 4 in this country. The rest of the league is ****e, just like France.
