I don't think they deserve as much as they get. I'm merely saying there's nothing wrong with pursuing as lucrative a career as you can. Especially if you're playing in the champions league and have the best coaches, medical staff and facilities that money can buy and playing alongside and training with world class talent everyday.

Do you recommend to everyone to decide where they want to work before they agree on a salary?

So, if someone wants to work at Lloyd's they should accept a £15,000 a year salary rather than going to RBS and getting £40,000 because where you work is more important than how much you're paid... Or do you only think footballers should think that way?

Did you decide to go work at your current job regardless of how much they paid you or anyone else is willing to pay?

Not the same ffs. Plus, the increase you suggested wasn't the same increase in terms of percentage, way to try and exaggerate the point <doh>. £15k or £22k would have been more accurate

My advice to people is to do what is best for you. I would always choose a job I'd enjoy over more money. More money is obviously great but not at the expense of happiness. (Real world)

As a footballer, I'd choose the route that would see me develop as a player the most. The vast sums of money will be there regardless of the direction you take.

He'll be training with one of the best squads around, with the best in facilities and coaching staff etc. He'll be around world class players daily, he'll be in the CL every year and become used to winning trophies.

How on earth is that not good development?

Yes the league is **** but every single othe aspect of PSG is top notch.

Training and spending your life with that calibre of player (and coaches) is massive.

Don't get the 'Poor development' argument at all.

Chuck 350k a week in and he's laughing his cock off.

And he wouldn't know what job would give him more happiness without experiencing it... He might as well do the more money route... Especially since it also means living in the culture capital of Europe and guaranteed silverware

Personally,I wouldn't change job if a competitor of my work offered me $10k more per year... Because I like where I am.

If they offered me $50k more I'd jump on the opportunity because that would potentially bring lifestyle improvements...

If I were unemployed and had no experience with either company I probably would have gone with whoever offered me more.

I think as someone said earlier it shows what type of person you are
I am in the group who has been in his job since 1999
I love the job I do - course I have days I want to quit but generally I like my job.
Had loads of chances to leave (not as many as I get older)
Money has never ever been anything more than do o have enough to live on for me - if it had my life would have been very different
It not necessarily negative to say it speaks volumes about the individual it just tells you their goals are different

Ever been offered triple the salary to leave with guaranteed higher quality coworkers and all the best equipment as well?

Heck, I'm sure I could find a job that paid $10 or $20k more than I'm currently earning, programmers are in such high demand at the moment, I'm happy staying put... But we're talking about multiple times the salary and he's going to a new club anyway.

It's a big what if situation, but say he goes to psg and wins the league every year for the next 10 years, plus a European cup. Retires a multi millionaire.

He goes to utd wins the league three times in 10 years plus a European cup, retires a multi millionaire.

He would be remembered as a hero at utd, recognised as a great of the game.

Those ten league titles are **** all compared to 3 in the prem.

It's a short career and I can see the money aspect, but surely you'd want to test yourself week in week out against the best you can.

To be fair, where else would DeLigt go that would be for ‘footballing reasons’?

In my opinion, Barca and Real are career suicide for most young footballers. And why would he go to United simply because they’re ****.

We would be a very attractive option to be fair ;)

PSG is not the worst place to go - as others have pointed out, he’ll be playing with quality footballers and winning medals regularly, and competing in the CL. £350k for a 19 year old is ridiculous but i think a lot of people would take it (combined with the above!).

He is the next star defender, and someone you can build your defence around for the next 10-15 years.

I work with a lot of doctors and surgeons that make 400k+ a year. You know what the number one thing they talk about?

Complaining about money and how much things cost.

Being rich doesn't take out the desire to have more. Warren Buffet would have stopped watching stocks decades ago it it did.

Although to be fair... If you're complaining about your wife spending $400 on a haircut are you really complaining... Or bragging. <laugh>. I suspect with the doctors it's a little of both.

Training alongside players is obviously a good thing but it's not the same as playing actual matches against quality players.

If you actually read the thread mate you'd realise people aren't saying he shouldn't want as much money as possibly. He should making a decision in the best interests of his own career and development rather than going to the highest bidder who isn't going to maximise his development.

He'd develop more staying at Ajax! Problem is, he's probably lucky to get £40k per week there

Nope and I have no idea how I would react with those sorts of numbers
Like I say it not a bad thing to me if he picks PSG
But for the circle he is moving - if it were me, knowing me, I am certain that I would not be picking PSG.
If he picks PSG imho it tells you a bit about the person
I have been offered more money not triple as that doesn’t exist in my industry lol and better equipment and knocked it back
Could not tell you about the quality of co workers for new offers but love and care for those that I work with
Part of the love is that fight as we have rubbish equipment
Think about it - there are plenty of people who could make fortunes in the medical industry but give it all up to goto deprived war torn countries.

No disrespect to anyone just different things motivate people differently.
    VVD could have gone anywhere
He chose us for a reason
    His goals differ.

    Same as the game itself
I love a great defensive display and I would much rather set up the goal than be the individual who puts it in the net

    Nothing negative just different :)
