I thought it would be an interesting break from the silly season.

Who are you going to see? Who you have seen? Best gigs?

I went to see Noel Gallagher last month . It was my first gig. I also saw the Total Stone Roses at Welly last Friday.

I've got tickets to see Johnny Marr on the 31st July at Welly and Primal Scream in December at Asylum.
 
Literally just got back from a very tiny gig in V Word cafe in Hessle. About a dozen people and it was full.

Emaline Delapaix. Aussie living in Berlin.

Very enjoyable evening

Aerosmith in Vegas?! Pah

And they said that a four and a half hour half time would be indulgent Den.

They're wrong.


It's not, it'll be marketing genius.


Think of all the pies we'll sell in four and a half hours!

Loads.

Chicken n mushroom, Balti.

And umm.. Chicken without mushroom.


And really long tasteless sausage rolls. They go down well.


**** tea, **** coffee, **** beer. Which surprisingly all tastes the same, only at different temperatures.


And we'll lock the doors so no one can get out.

They'll have to sample our wares or die in the wait to leave.



No one'll tell us how to run a football club.

I was also one of those at the Noel gig, ace night.

Off to see the brilliantly named King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard in Leeds in October. Also off to see Sharon Van Etten in Leeds too in August.

EDIT: I'm actually popping over to Manchester this evening to see an Aussie artist by the name of Hatchie - quite shoegazey tunes, similar to stuff like Slowdive, Ride, My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins, Wolf Alice ,etc. She hasn't got an album out yet (comes out this month) but I really enjoyed her debut EP and singles. Also, it's only £9 a ticket.

Saw Courtney Barnett and Wolf Alice in November and December respectively, absolutely superb gigs both of them. The latter in particular, it was a couple of days before Christmas in Brixton. Seen Arctic Monkeys a few times the past few years. Seen loads of acts, too many to list tbh. Been a bit lucky really.

One of the first gigs I ever went to was probably the luckiest in hindsight - went to see Oasis in Bridlington back in 2009. 8 days after that gig, they split.


Don't know if it's my personal fave gig but have to concur with Ern on the Boss being the best act I've seen live. Bucket list stuff. Don't think I have a personal fave gig, usually recency bias means the most recent gig I've seen sticks at the top.

Oh, and I'm off to a little thing called Glastonbury in a few weeks. It's a small festival, not sure if many have heard of it. Been a couple of times before.

Impossible task to pick a favourite as many have been fantastic - small venues (less than 50 in the audience ?) or large outdoor venues (> 2,000).
I estimate I've been to over 400 gigs (possibly 100 more if you include local bands in local pubs/clubs) over the last 50 years.

The worst I ever didn't see - Nov 71 Velvet Underground - they didn't show up - a slight altercation with customs for (so the story goes) a problem with a chemical stimulant found in a band members luggage @ Heathrow. Was deeply pissed off about that.

Most entertaining - 2000 ish (I think) Jethro Tull - open air, several monster screens dotted around - audience (maybe 1500) aged from teeny-boppers to geriatrics (like me) having a ball.

Most professional - Cat Stevens (simple quality presentation - 1969/70) , Rolling Stone (1971 - Leeds U.U. and 2004 (I think) - Toronto) - superbly professional staging & quality performance.

John Mayall ( June '65 - L.U.U. - probably 6/700 present and May 2001 - Toronto, small club, around 400 present I reckon). The man had lost nothing over the intervening 35 years. Superb.

Most physically damaging ? Around 2001 - Leslie West & Mountain (Woodstock fame) - fantastic sound - my ears are still recovering. Probably less than a 100 in the club in Toronto.

Regrets - never seen The Boss live. Summat I must do before one of us croaks. Summat like Oscar and the wallpaper <laugh>

Next Thursday I am at Stockport's football ground for Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbot.
September I am going to Edinburgh to see Hozier and then Leeds in December to see The National.

Seen him three times with E street and once solo.
Nothing compares.
New solo studio album out tomorrow.

Saw Razorlight back in February at Uni. Stereophonics in May at Bonus Arena. Nothing else lined up yet.

Joe Strummer @ Manchester Uni.

I've seen many bands in between and since, but the gigs above were moments in my life that meant more than just a night out.

Like a poster before, I am also going to Stockport to see Paul Heaton, but have tickets for the Friday gig.

Crass at Blind Institute was great. My dodgy memory tells me that they were supported by Exploited but I’ve probably just mixed two different gigs up in my head?

Exploited played at Welly bout the time Army Life/**** the Mods came out ,

I was also at the Crass Blind institute gig, the Damned at City Hall and Killing Joke at Spring St. previously mentioned. Though Squeeze at City hall circa 79 was memorable ( got my mug shot in the paper) also Slf was a great night amongst the many bands that played Tower at one time.

Sex Pistols at some London music fest was good, at the other end of the spectrum saw Julie Felix at Adelphi last year and that was just awesome.
Seen loads and forgotten loads....next up pub band on Saturday followed by a Smiths tribute week after.
