What opinion? Who is Fury's next fight with - is it Wilder? No - the fact is that it is some random German guy rather then fight Wilder for a rematch - what is the reasoning there? The WBC already came out and said that Fury can have a rematch even thought Whyte is the #1 contender but Fury ducked it plain and simple. Also how was the fight a risk to Fury - what did he have to lose? He doesn't hold any belts or have anything else to negotiate with so he had to agree to a fight in Wilder's back yard otherwise he wouldn't have gotten it and would have carried on fighting chumps and getting booed by his own fans. As for Joshua I'm not sure what your point is there - the only champion left to fight was Wilder and how many times did negotiations break down? You Fury fanboys need to just admit your hero isn't as infallible as you think he is.
When you have been around boxing, knowing how it works and how promoters work then you would understand, that isn't a shoot down btw. Amateur boxing in the UK has been corrupted since the early 80's mate and that's why I got out in 85. Terry Lawless could tell you a tale or two, so could Barney Eastwood.. The Joshua fight last night had all the symtoms of McGuigan's fight against Steve Cruz in 86, when Cruz was brought in as a last minute replacement when Fernando Sosa had to withdraw. McGuigan was the Featherweight Champion, Cruz was regarded as easy meat..
This is the best part about boxing - that there can always be an upset and anyone can win if they try. Is the reason why Rocky Fielding pissed me off so much against Canelo - gave up before the bell even rang. Also Audley Harrison's entire career - when he faced Haye for the world title I don't think he threw one punch before he was KOed
Enjoy the fights mate and hopefully they will come through thicker and faster than they are now. There is a lot of politics and money in professional boxing, it will be hard to suppress the racketeers. It was always thought when Don King ****ed off the problems would go with him, no ****ing chance.. You love your boxing, I rarely watch these days, enjoy mate, it's as good as it gets..
wow. I looked to me that Joshua quit in the end. he just run out of juice. it was the same against Klitchko, Joshua was gassed but Klichko ran out of juice too but this one? he looked like he'd run out of ideas and didn't want to carry on. if the rematch goes ahead and Ruiz gets off to a decent start Joshua will fold
Yeah he wasn't keen to carry on was he? In his heart he knew he couldn't win so put the ref in a position where he had to make a call. Big question marks over his chin and stamina.
The rematch might be in the contract, but it's in the nature of contracts that the guy with the belts calls the shots. AJ may have to wait a while for that to happen. The moral of this story is, you never, ever take a fight with an unknown Mexican at short notice. Hearn should have known that, too many fighters have come unstuck that way. Getting beat won't do Joshua any harm in the long run, if he's serious about being a true champion. How else do you learn, really? Not by stage managing a career to the point where you avoid risk.
I’d imagine the rematch clause will be pretty water tight given the circumstances of how Ruiz ended up with the fight tbh mate. Joshua hadn’t done enough homework on the guy that was obvious, he didn’t seem to know how to deal with the much shorter rotund fella, who held a high guard. He also completely misjudged the guys hand speed, as he could bang with both hands. The rematch will be in London Sept / Oct time I reckon.
He also didn't look fit to me. Out of breath by the end of the third and generally just seemed really flat. He underestimated his opponent to the point of disrespecting him.
He was also the same in the Klitchko fight. His stamina looks to be suspect. The most worrying thing for me was as the ref counted him out in his corner he looked like he didn't know what to do. Most boxers I've seen, even when they are out of it, at least try to get their hands up and want to carry on where as Joshua just stood there with his hands on the ropes looking for answers from his corner. You've got to say how well Ruiz boxed. Hands always up, moving forward. Some great, hard body shots with good power in both hands. I'd fancy Ruiz for the 're-match to be honest.
Fair points - yeah Ruiz was good - it wasn't like he had one punch and KO's AJ he actually bossed him soon after he himself got put down. It was a bizarre scene seeing some short fat bloke making a big, tall, lean bloke walk backwards to avoid him. It was like my jack russel when a bigger dog confronts her and the the larger one ends up walking slowly backwards thinking - "**** that, can't be dealing with that!" My dad actually says he reminds him of Frank Bruno who got too big which made him slow. And yup the stamina is very suspect - as is his chin. He looked all out of ideas and basically threw in the towel.
Bruno had a magnificent physique, but quite rigid and static, not much lateral movement. AJ moves more naturally than Bruno did, but there are similarities, for sure. Big Frank was a grafter in the gym though, never underprepared for a fight. Had his limitations exposed once or twice, but a better fighter than he was generally given credit for. Joe Bugner could have been a truly great British heavyweight, if he’d had Bruno’s work ethic and Cooper’s heart. So could Tyson Fury, come to that.
Yeah I do hope Fury sticks around as has a go against Joshua and Wilder again. Hopefully this fight shakes up the division and stops some of the greed - for sure Hearn and AJ are in a weaker negotiating position now and need to make the fights rather than sit it out waiting for the favourable deal. I was just starting to lose interest in the heavyweight division again but this is a good kick!
